Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Citi Tampa - H1 scam

Citi Tampa hires and promotes H1b for all roles. They never prioritize American interests. While the business is done by Americans priority is given to H1Bs at all levels.

HR comes up with several reasons

  1. We weren’t able to find the right talent in Tampa
  2. Only Indian h1b holders have the talent - America has got less talent

On the other hand we see Americans working for daily wages at $14 an hour. We see H1b holders buying half grand homes. This company has gone against the policy of the government firing Americans and residents.

Citi appears to be increasing rather than decreasing its use of H-1B sponsorship. For the first quarter of FY2026 (October–December 2025), Citi's certified H-1B-related filings were reportedly up nearly 20% year-on-year, whereas JPMorgan's fell about 29% and Goldman's fell more than 60%.

No one can dare to layoff immigrants at Citi. They have full backing of senior managers. Their first target for layoff is citizens.
September, October and January will be depressing for some citizen employees. Some of them may become homeless by next year. So sad!

@jp It is a violation of law to pass on the fees associated with H1B to the employee. The employer has to bear the cost of the fee that USCIS (the visa issuing agency) and a law firm (that preps the documents, files for LCA etc.) will charge. the ONLY fee that an employee can be expected to pay during an H1B is:

1) The roughly 2500 USD fee to expedite the application so that USCIS processes with a approve/deny within 15 calendar days. However, many big firms like a Citi or JP can easily absorb this
2)The dependent H4 where applicable but again, most firms pick up the tab and file jointly
3)Dependent work authorization if the petitioner is entitled to file one. Some firms will pick up the tab as a courtesy but most won't. This can also be self filed easily enough

Lastly, when Citi or any other employee says 'sponsorship not available' or 'we will not sponsor for this position' or similar verbiage, what they're saying is that the position is not open to visa holders so effectively only those with a green card or citizenship or work authorization via a program such as asylum/TPS etc. will be selected. Anyone with a visa will be rejected by the firm advertising a position with this kind of a verbiage as part of the JD

@fm

You're confused.

The prospective employee can or must pay out of their own pocket the costs/fees to maintain their work visa as long as the prospective employee can show proof that an employer hired them.

For example, if an H1b or any other type of work visa costs $10000 per year (I don't know the actual price), the foreign employee must show proof to USCIS that an employer hired them on the condition that they pay for their own work visa and file all of the necessary documents.

The thing I don't understand is that all the jobs I see posted by Citi say they will not provide sponsorship.

@f5 Pull your assets out of the bank. Don't hold anything but debt with them and minimize the interest you pay as much as possible.

That's the only way to fight back, unfortunately.

Thousands of Citi Americans will be jobless in just 5 months. After that, they will hire some non-Americans in whatever way possible.
