Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

2 weeks’ notice—let go immediately?

I’ve heard from a couple of people that when they gave their 2 weeks’ notice, Centene immediately cut off access to company devices but the employee was paid for those 2 weeks and health insurance continued to the end of the month.

Are any people leaders able to verify if this is the standard when someone gives notice? Or is this more an exception than the rule?

I’m a PL. this depends on the employee. If they are likely to cause issues or having them gone is better for the team than having them there for those two weeks, then we would have them go immediately. If we need them to wrap up some critical work, or transition things to others, we’d have them stay.

I recently resigned (like a week ago) and that was t my experience. I think that only happens if where you’re going presents some type of conflict of interest retest with your current role at Centene.

It all depends on the area you work in and your PL. At this point in the game, if you give your two weeks notice and they say today is your last day, they have to pay you that remaining two weeks or mark you as fired. Insurance depends on when your last day falls on if you get it "to the end of the month" or the middle of the month (say you gave notice on the 25th - then your two weeks would fall in the mid month cut off.

We had a couple people leave from our team and they all stayed for two weeks after giving notice. I know two of them went to competitors but didn’t mention it until the last day they were here.

How do they know they are going to a competitor

I put in my two week notice and this week will be my last. So far, no one has said anything. Maybe that has to do with our team if 10+ people was reduced to just 3 when they started handing out layoffs in May. I’d be ok if I didn’t work the whole two weeks cuz the volume has been outrageous and I still get told our numbers are low.

my experience is that it depends on their role...for utilization management nurses that are going to a competitor, they are let go immediately.

Depends on the role and whether you're needed to finish out your notice period or not. And, as a former PL, it also depends on whether you're identified as someone who they believe will be hostile on your way out. Either way, they pay you for your notice period (two weeks for individual contributors and up to four weeks for PL, assuming you gave that much notice), but you may not have to work that entire time.

Yes, my experience is that they do not wait the 2 weeks.

Depends on role. Yes - this totally occurs. Mainly for VP+ folks that may go to competion. It is not done for the vast number of folks.

I don't know if they are continued to be paid for the next 2 weeks or not but I've never seen anyone here actually allowed to work their 2 weeks when moving to another company. That's always confused me as well.

I worked my two week notice so that I could train my replacement. No, that did not happen to me and I also had insurance until the end of the month.
