Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Layoffs started this morning!

Good luck everyone! I'm surprisingly not upset. I think it's because I always felt like we were triplicating work already done by bigger teams. Maybe I will feel some type of way later, but right now, it's just indifference.

@ar Agreed 12/26 is an amazing date! I would’ve signed up if that had been given as an option.

@a8 Stay abreast of the news if you decide to go back. The workforce reductions are driven by major membership losses in Medicaid and Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace plans.

Anyone know what happens if your people leader is off? Would their supervisor or whoever is covering just do it?

My last day is 9/4. At least it wasn't abrupt.

@ag

Having a Dec. 2026 separation date is great, actually.
It gives you enough of a heads up to time your job hunting (get on it NOW!), but still allows for some leeway, so you're not super panicked. It gives you steady income until the end of the year, with a nice big $$$ holiday parting-gift for yourself, too.

We're practically in September at this point, so to be able to know for sure that you only have to be here for another 3 months is a blessing. Enjoy the holidays, give yourself some needed rest and recharging, and here's hoping your work focus between now and then is on lining up a new, better job which pays much more, and the start date is in January!

2027: Start FRESH!

@a1 I have a Dec2026 separation date and that seems so far away. I can’t imagine having one that far out. I’m ready to go too!

How are the invites showing? From HR or people leader?

@a9 you do have to pay it back. Also, staying at this company is likely not the best idea. They plan on outsourcing most of the work across all departments. And from experience, once the company does that quality tanks, so more layoffs will come on top of heavy workloads for whoever is left. This is a sinking ship.

@a8 you can try but good luck! And if you are severanced and come back I think you have to pay it back. With the VSP it’s noted if anyone comes back have to pay it back i believe

I'm still waiting to hear about my dept, but if I get layed off, can I apply to an open position within Centene?

@a2 at least yours waited until this morning to send those invites. Our doofus sent them out Friday afternoon and ruined everyone’s weekend.

@a4 We went through restructuring first as well, and then the hammer came down today.

@a2 I have one scheduled for middle of the week. Just an individual invite. Our dept was restructured about 2 weeks prior to them announcing VSP. Curious to know if these skip levels are to let us go or about further restructuring. My spidey senses are feeling like I'm gonna be set free.

I think what you’re feeling and not feeling totally makes sense. I hope you end up in a much better situation. If you don’t mind sharing — Did you receive any kind of severance?

We just had a meeting put on our calendar for noon time today with our skip leader. So that’s not good. But was anticipating this.

I feel the same way! I don’t mean to sound insensitive or rude in any way but they could let me go yesterday and I would be ok with it! I took the VSP but I have a late 2027 separation but ready to go now ✌🏻
