Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

We care about our people 🙄

Hearing there are folks who accepted a move to Edmonton and had been planning for the move. Then to have Imperial pull their offers and gave them an end date.

What a slap in the face.

@OP It’s beyond obvious that this so‑called “transformation” is a staged farce. People keep clinging to the delusion that being tagged as mobile and handed a job offer means they’re safe. They’re not. This company has made it painfully clear that every single one of us is disposable — sycophants included. Once you drag yourself to Edmonton, they’ll fire up another round of layoffs, and odds are you won’t dodge it twice. Then you’re stranded there, stuck with a decision you’ll spend years regretting. Regardless, best of luck — you’ll need it.

Oh, don't forget to donate to United Way to make the clowns look good!

@OP This wouldn't surprise me. Why go through the hassle of having to pay for an employee's relocation and current salary level. They shoulda just ALT + CTRL + DEL last Sept vs the charade that's currently on display.

@OP
Look around and see how many people are leaving. Imperial says they care? Well, we all know it’s pure BS! Come January 2027, it will be very empty of experience and quality people. Wait until the false positives leave as their dates approach. Wait for the next phase, define benefits to defined contributions. Wait for it!

If you move to Edmonton with this company you are a complete mo--n, unless you waiting on retirement milestones, that’s about the only reason to go or you if really love creating workflows. IOL is dead

They should have read the papers that were signed. The company always gave themselves an out. They pay severance and nothing that can be done.

Why would anyone still trust this company? IOL may have been generally trustworthy as an employer 10-20 years ago, but any remaining shred of trust should be eroded by now.

The company keeps shifting the goalposts and the opportunities are declining rapidly. No surprise that jobs continue to disappear.

Anyone who is trusting the company for career opportunities in Edmonton better have a good backup plan.

Is this real or just a hearsay? If it's real, how would they do that? Notice of termination aka lay off? Outside annual PDS cycle?

@OP This is really messed up if this is indeed true.

Doesn't surprise me at this point. Also wondering how many people were given the generic q42027 letters with no formal end date and now being given the PIP/PIL choices?
