Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Make this make sense

Forged Fiber is hiring for remote positions. AT&T’s own careers site currently shows remote and virtual openings.

So apparently remote work is good enough for some parts of the company, but the rest of us need to be in the office five days a week.

Same company. Same technology. Same Teams calls. Same internet. Yet two completely different sets of rules.

I guess they finally figured out that telling candidates they have to report to an office five days a week isn’t exactly a great way to attract talent. But somehow the employees already here are still being told that five-day RTO is essential.

If a job can be done remotely when you’re trying to hire someone, why can’t it be done remotely after you’ve hired them?

This is exactly why people don’t buy the BS argument that 5x RTO is about productivity. It’s a policy choice.

And apparently even AT&T knows when it needs to make a different choice to get the talent it wants. This place is really a joke.

@147 tell me you don’t understand the distinction of “manager” without telling me. 90+% of us do not manage people.

@c1
I've had 14 managers in my career. Went close to a year at one point with no manager. As a union employee we can get on just fine without one. Especially now. Ai approves the timesheet and time off. Do i really need some shmuck in skinny jeans and a logo shirt hiding in the corner all day?

They make the rules. You either play by them or you dont. Thats the only thing you control.

@bz
What are you doing about anything? Hiding behind your screen like youve done your entire life. Go out and make the change you want to see happen. Or, just hide and blame someone else for your pathetic life.

The company has the right to change policy. If you don’t like it, quit.

Same bait and switch tactics, different year. Once those people accept the positions, the remote rug will be "needs of the business" pulled out from under them just like the rest of us. There is no law against lying to people you are trying to hire.

@bz Naw. Corporations ruined things. Politicans ruined things ... think reaganomics as example. Think li&ars in office currently who never worked a day in his life. Think 70M voters who chose this current nonsense. Those are the ones who ruined things. Do you understand?

You people are pathetic. Old vs Young. Union vs "management". If you're young, be happy with what the old folks have built so you can have a job. And don't forget, you'll be old too some day. The old folks need to shut up about the "lazy" young people. You were called lazy and "didn't want to work" too when you were in your 20's (as a generation). There are some great hard working Gen Z guys on my team. The union folks wouldn't have jobs without the managers (exempt employees) and the managers wouldn't have jobs if we didn't have the union folks out there making it all happen.

There's good and bad in all of the groups.

If all you can do is complain about others, then you are probably the problem.

I'm no Stankey boot li---r or company shill. RTO su-ks. The constant lay offs su-k. Stankey is an id--t and needs to go. Its just ridiculous to complain about other employees that, for the most part, just want to do a good job, earn a paycheck and be treated fairly. Being lied to about the reasons for RTO and how they want employees to be happy and fairly compensated is not treating us with respect.

@bq you ruined the country for your own selfish benefit. Look at what you’ve left us with. This is the mess your generation created. Do you understand?

The regular comments about 'boomers' on this site has more to do with jealousy of a generation who has more monetarily than Gen Z, Millennials, etc. Home ownership, many without mortgages, pensions, social security and 401ks (IRAs)--this is really what ticks off so many of you. Yeah, we happened to have joined the company when pensions were a thing, and yes, we happened to have bought houses when interest rates were perhaps 3%. And yes, inflation for the most part, was not crippling long term.
Most of the animus directed toward 'boomers' is because you want what so many of us achieved. An incredibly happily retired boomer' retired 5 years.

Why is it that most posts on this site always point back to RTO complaints? A forum intended to carry content about layoffs has been hijacked by petulant juveniles complaining about returning to the office. Ridiculous

@a1 could be, but they’ll never make a formal announcement. It’ll just quietly go away and stop being enforced. That may already be the case. Nobody goes in on Fridays anymore and nobody says anything about it.
