Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

End Date

If you were given a quarter in 2027 for termination, are people receiving the official termination letter already, months in advance? I heard it was because they are ahead of the game, even though the quarter in 2027 is not changing. Seems suspicious.

Whatever notice period you receive for you terminate date, doesn’t that actually reduce your severance package? If they you 8 weeks formal notice, then your severance package is reduced by 8 weeks. If they give you 6 months notice, then your severance package is reduced by 6 months. So a long formal notice period is not advantageous?

Imperial is in no rush to sever for those they identified for 2027. They want some people to help third Polaris. Also, for anyone retirement eligible, they want them off the current benefits program since they can save lots $$$ long term - meaning they want them to retire after Dec 1. It’s very advantageous for Imperial to get as many people as possible off the current benefit plan for annuitants.

@eb what about rankings? Is the severance amount reflective of any raise they are entitled to with pds?

Imperial should stop pretending and issue the 2027 termination notices now. Everyone knows what’s coming, and dragging it out only keeps people trapped in a toxic environment they’ve already decided to dismantle. If the plan is to hand everything to BTC, GBS, and Houston because those groups supposedly “do it better,” then just transfer the work and be done with it. It fits their cost‑cutting agenda anyway — they’ll pay those teams less and call it efficiency.

Bangalore is doing such a great job backfilling the roles, might as well speed up the departures!
