Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Some good news for once.

There is life after Dell.
I left at my own accord, EMEA based, 20 years in ISG, 50+ years old. So basically the sweet spot for some of the trolls on this site :-)

Started looking last year when the "return to office" fad was at it's peek. I applied for over 30 roles, I got 6 interviews, 2 ended in no offer, 1 ended in a offer lower than my salary and then 2 that matched my salary and 1 where my salary increased. I accepted one that matched my salary and I am (so far) very happy with the change. I purposely chose smaller companies and business areas that was interesting to me and in a way quite a bit different than my previous role.

Now for all of you who for some reason believe that skills acquired in a multinational, experience and business understanding is somehow not valued outside, You need to think again... In all the interviews I had I can tell you that the skills you have are very much sought after and they are transferable. If you have skills and experience from: Technical Support, Services, Sales, Pre-Sales, Business Operations, Business Analysts, Service Delivery, Customer Success, Management, Business Processes, AI, Automation etc etc you have skills that are transferable. And there are opportunities out there (I did find loads of "junk" job listings though, very annoying)

With all the nonsense being posted on this site I thought I would let you know that there are alternatives out there...

To be honest. Employers don't care about former Dell employees unless they are/were from EMC. In my unemployment journey and in interviews I learned being legacy EMC holds more water then a legacy Dell employee.

@fg Utter poppycock... Again you are making up "facts" in your head that have no grounds in reality.

@f4
You have a few hours to convince new company/people to hire you. you will need every advantage possible.
Having Dell as a line item on your resume --- especially for a xx years is going to hurt your chances a lot.
Not only will others pre-judge you, but Dell has inadequately added to your skillset.

Those are the rules. You don't have to like them but it will affect you.

@f4 sorry should have said “and not for what you bring”

@dy You don’t emphasize Dell. You list your employment last but precede it with your accomplishments, your training, your professional credentials, and examples of your leadership. Not using phrases like “ ‘part of the team’ that developed the self-adjusting USB adapter.”
Sure maybe Dell on your resume isn’t as sweet as Alphabet or Apple but it’s you they’re buying not who you worked for.

Besides - if a company wants to hire you because of a past employer and for what you bring, maybe you don’t want to work for them?

I could've written this word-for-word. It's incredible to work for a company that not only views you purely as a capex line item to be removed, but actively invests in training and upskilling their workforce. And actually getting a decent bump in this economy was a pleasant surprise. I would've left for 10% less.

You would be the exception not the rule. Unfortunately, dell on your resume is not noteworthy and literally detrimental to it.

the longer the tenure, the worse the outcome. The lost opportunities, lost ROI, career sink, etc.

@OP another troll post. Why are you on this site if you just got a job? Are you a narcissist that likes to brag to people who are anxious about losing their jobs? What's the point of this insulting post.

@ah But, that is just it, trolls on here deciding in their heads what is a fact and what is not a fact. Of course our skills not "10 years out of date", come on... try harder...

Hi. From my side 4 years at Dell 50+, I8 full remote, I've got an offer after applyaing in to the one position elsewhere. In my case sallary increassed. I am based in Europe and I've applied to europeean company. There's no way for me to apply to US based company anymore, it's a kind of a 21st century slavery if I look back. I wish you luck .... there's a better life outside of Dell.

@OP That's all fine and well, but most enterprise-class companies have realized that skills Dell employees possess are 10 years outdated. That's not a troll comment, that's just a fact - Dell is 10 years behind the curve.
