Insignificant is a better word than minimal.
Employee costs are minimal in an oil company acquisition. This poison won’t stop a deal.
Comparing the 2025 version to the 2026 version, looks to be better for employees. The biggest changes are:
Pro‑Rata Target Bonus
- 2025: Pro‑rata bonus = 1.0 × Target Bonus × (months/12)
- 2026: Pro‑rata bonus = 1.5 × Target Bonus × (months/12)
- Change: 2026 increases bonus multiplier from 1.0× → 1.5×
Welfare Benefits (Medical, Dental, Life)
- 2025: 6 months of continued coverage at active employee rates
- 2026: 18 months of continued coverage at active employee rates
- Change: Coverage tripled (6 → 18 months)
Years‑of‑Service Severance Schedule (non‑Grade‑26 employees)
- 2025: 0–3 yrs = 4 months; 20+ yrs = 22 months
- 2026: 1–3 yrs = 4–7 months; 15+ yrs = 22 months
- Change: Table restructured; early‑career severance increased; top tier unchanged
COBRA Coordination
- 2025: COBRA subsidized for 6 months if not eligible for active plan continuation
- 2026: COBRA subsidized for 18 months if not eligible for active plan continuation
- Change: Matches welfare benefit extension (6 → 18 months)
So, just makes it a bit more poisonous.

@k1 so with them updating it, an acquisition is on the horizon?
Change of control only applies if Oxy gets acquired and they upped the number of months of pay for the employees. This isn’t the same as a layoff.
Updating the change of control for sure means layoffs are coming before December. The timing fits with the employee ranking process which starts in the next two months.
They did just update the change of control policy… whatever that means.
I sure hope so. I know a few brits and scots that need to go.

If 47 roughs up Oman and makes doing business in the middle east more difficult, I could see Oxy become a domestic US company.
