Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

RIFs are for the well-deserved !!

I have never met a bad person that got RIFFED. It was always the nice ones that were at or close to retirement . People look at it as a punishment but in reality it’s the company way of rewarding the good ones . The truth is everyone I know wants that package but too bad the company will determine who is deserving of it .

@tw I had a boss at another blue company who was cut lose at 29.5 years, just shy of the 30 year pension bump. Thankfully he had never taken his guaranteed Sabbatical, so he took off a year without pay, crossed over the 30 year mark for his pension and then came back for one day and retired. Oh the games we all play.

I was 2 years from retirement and got the RIF in May along with many colleagues of similar age. There were also some folks in the group in their 30s and 40s who made the list, but generally the best bang for the buck is to cut those with the biggest overall compensation packages.

On a personal level, it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Now I’m retired thanks to intentional planning for decades and into new ventures that are far more personally rewarding than a majority of my Medtronic career was.

Saying Medtronic is not going to have layoffs is like saying Dr. Doug Ross is not going to have any affairs on season 1-2 of ER - especially with stewardesses, medical students, and allied health. It'll never happen (sarcasm).

This site is clearly a MN hot bed of nasty mean folk posting comments. But the posts are fun to read. IMHO

Is it just me or this site has the most negative people ?! People are just so miserable they would rather support a negative comment more than a positive one that has facts to back it up . If these downers are from Minnesota , that’s why your state is cursed . Medtronic, get the he-l out of that state . Your people crazy !

People on this site have brain worms

The only consistent thing about RIFs is corporate wants to cut the budget to increase profits

Based, if your praying for a rif or verp package, forget it, MDT will wait you out. Or just fire you. If needed.

This is real. I have seen this multiple times. I watch 10x near retired riffed while keeping underperforming checkboxes. I have not once seen a team come out more productive and/or stronger. They are always worse off making a more compelling case for out sourcing and driving the acceleration to make it happen.

Can confirm: I am close to retirement and would welcome a RIF. I will probably never get one.
