Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Finance Town Hall

Today’s finance town hall introduced me to the phrase “trend warrior.”

Trend. Warrior. 🙄

Umm, this is an insurance company. Nobody is storming the beaches of Q3 armed with an Excel pivot table.

But sure. I’ll circle back, leverage some synergies, identify actionable insights, move the needle, and then mount my noble steed and ride forth into battle against unfavorable financial trends.

Or—and hear me out—we could just do our jobs and stop naming everything.

Sincerely,
Still working • Still skeptical • Still refusing to drink the corporate Kool-Aid.

Get with the times … Some executive was asking their grandkids what they looking at and the💡went off. This is where 90% of the ideas come from.

"Trend warrior" most commonly refers to a viral social media focus on the modern men's "Warrior Cut" hairstyle paired with a fade, or creative Warrior Cats digital art and animation trends on platforms like TikTok and Instagram

Think I inadvertently said “Centene” below but you get my point as to how these corporate execs think we are all d-mb and easily manipulated.

@ct In fact, let’s put this absurdist satirical new term into practice to see if “Starving Giants” has the same effect as the Elevance’s Executives new term “Trending Warriors.”

We are the proud Starving Giants and are prepared and willing to starve for the good of the company Elevance! All hail to Centene!!! You are our Masters! All hail to thee!!!

[Picture an army of emaciated Elevance employees marching forward with bony arms and fists raised towards the sky.]

@OP Thanks for the heads up - I for sure don't want to be BOILING THE OCEAN, I just want to SKATE WHERE THE PUCK IS GOING.

We can put a pin in it or circle back. Love to chat more but I have a hardstop.

@bp You may be into something. The fact that there is a day trading app called “Trend Warrior,” as you mentioned, that could be where the person in the Townhall got that phrase, seeing as how executives are completely addicted and dependent on stock prices. Truly, little else matters to them than the company’s stock price.

@bp Thank you. I was just trying to add a little levity as I know everyone is stressed.

I think the coined term “Trend Warrior” was totally made up.

But if I were a guessing person, I would say they probably meant “Trend Warrior” as being a person who fights for setting new changes. Someone who accepts and goes along with the latest “trend,” which I am assuming in this context meant generational AI.

The person in your meeting who coined that made up phrase, is most likely trying to manipulate by using patriotic or strong courageous type language.

I don’t agree with the strategy nor do I think people should try to get people onboard with a venture that is obviously intended to displace people from their jobs, only income for survival, and quality of life.

It would be like me coining a term like “Starving Giants” to get you onboard with going hungry and thinking somehow that there is some virtue and strength in doing without food.

@bb that's hilarious, nice one. But what did they mean in the meeting? I've never heard that term before and neither has the Internet. AI thinks it's an app for day traders.

@b8 I think Trend Warriors are maybe what Bill Murray, John Candy, and Harold Ramis were in the 1981 movie titled Stars.
