@ef
It is a fight against the slimy Indian and his cabal of thieves, there are no rules. The slimy Indian is the master of scams and lies. It is a fight to the finish.

They're trying to get you to quit without severance. Try to complete each task quickly and never miss a PIP meeting. Some PIPs are intentionally impossible to satisfy (e.g. sales goals).

They eventually gave me 3 months but only after some dirty tricks, like calling relevant meetings without notifying me.

Always PIP = IBM will take me out? Do they get you out after PIP immediately finishes?

A PIP is your warning to get another job, ASAP.
Expect to be shown the door.

PIPs are not designed to improve your performance so you can stay.
It's their way of telling you, "We want you out, and we're creating expectations which are purposefully vague, where we'll keep moving the goalposts to our advantage, while creating a papertrail to cover our a33es legally, so on paper it looks like you just couldn't cut it, so we had to cut you loose."

Do not fall for your manager's or HR's cr-p about how a PIP is just to "help you succeed."
It's the opposite: it's setting you up to fail.

Don't even expend much energy on trying to jump through hoops to meet PIP goals. It's a waste of time, a charade, and you won't win. Just get a new job as soon as you can.

Can be as little as one month or can drag on if you fight it well

Same as US ... PIPs last until you're fired

I think it depends on the manager's decision. I am in Europe and my lasts 3 months.
