Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

BRG changes

Taking away the last bits of any real joy we have around here but pretending like they are doubling the investment. This company has no culture left.

@rj yeah, that still isn't a brg - brgs are company organized and paid. You're talking about a yammer group. Person was just a lazy coworker.

@hn - Salt and Life is the name of the group. It aligns with the basic definition of a business resource group. It is an employee-led group that bring together employees around a shared characteristic, background, interest, or purpose. - Faith in this instance.

I worked with someone who was a member of a faith-based BRG, and unfortunately, she had one of the poorest work ethics I’ve encountered in my career.

For several MONTHS, she blocked significant portions of her calendar during the work day to study for an entry-level certification exam that took others 2 weeks studying at home during the evenings. She would become frustrated when colleagues approached her with work-related questions because they were “interrupting” her study time—despite the fact that she should not have been using the work day as dedicated study time in the first place. I don’t know about any of you, but my schedule is so busy that blocking any time off is impossible at times.

She was a GL-15, yet she couldn’t be trusted to send even a basic email without a secondary review. On top of that, she routinely took extended periods of time off for appointments—four or more hours—without properly recording the time. She also had a habit of taking leave during the rare periods when her workload had any potential to increase, repeatedly leaving her teammates to pick up the slack.

Eventually, she was RIF’d, but what she was allowed to get away with for YEARS was honestly one of the most absurd examples of workplace accountability—or the lack thereof—that I’ve ever witnessed in corporate America.

I just hope she works harder for Jesus in her next role, which is hopefully at a church, than she did for U.S. Bank.

To be clear, I’m not saying that all BRG members are like this. Far from it. But there are individuals who may believe they are representing their BRG well when, in reality, their behavior can have the opposite effect. When someone repeatedly demonstrates poor performance, accountability issues, and a lack of work ethic while simultaneously being associated with a particular employee group, it can unfortunately reinforce stereotypes and undermine the credibility of the very organization they are supposed to represent.

That’s the part I find most frustrating: one person’s behavior can do a lot of damage to the reputation of a group that includes many hardworking people who take their roles and responsibilities seriously.

Hire people to serve customers in their communities? Haha! No! The vast majority of those jobs are going overseas.

Allow remaining employees to organize by identity and volunteer in their communities? Didn't you read the first part? We stopped in investing in people here (unless you're the NFL). Do that stuff on your own time!

I appreciate the clarification of comments here. The article on the intranet reads like it's AI - lots of words, no substance.

My sympathies to those who have provided great opportunities through the BRGs, it's always been unpaid and often unsung work, but it's benefitted so many.

As an active board member of BRGs its sad to see this is the path that was chosen and to position it as volunteer fatigue shows their disconnect on this matter and so many others.

Business Resource Group Chapters at each market are a thing of the past. If you are a leader or member you are essentially getting fired from a non paying job. “We power human potential “ 😂

The message is clearly, "don't take an hour a month collaborating with like minded people. You're wasting company time; stay on task and increase shareholder value." Period.

Agreed. And to position it as if they are actually worried about burnout and being inclusive. Just say you don’t care about what makes people happy and actually making them feel included.

Just say you’re saving money and don’t care.

@ap it stands for “business resource group” networking groups for a few different demographics like lgbtq+, military service-people, neurodiversity, latinx, and a few others I can’t remember

Sad but not surprised to hear about the BRG changes. Elcio is in charge of them now and he is a 5 foot walking sphincter just waiting to sh-t on anything in his path.

BRG was joy? You are far gone if that is what brought you joy.

Let’s rip apart what is left of the soul in this company by completely dismantling the BRGs. Great job GK. Another feather in your cap 👏 👏
