Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

This Friday or next Monday

Pretty sure that we will hear about the layoff this Friday or next Monday. I'm bracing myself for it.
These multiple waves of layoffs are making me sick.

@de I agree that layoffs can improve productivity. But the thing is, it feels like some people who actually need to go are still staying, while some people who are actually contributing are getting laid off. Upper management in my org seems very incompetent. I think that person is just good at playing politics. Still, they’re the one making the decisions and staying.

@d6 for us in France, the one that was announced earlier this year was already carried out in July so I’m just a bit surprised. Maybe you’re right, perhaps some people would be receiving voluntary offers so let’s see how that goes.

People I talk with agree that a layoff will improve productivity.
Morale is not good. No surprise.

I know this is tough for most people but its good for shareholders.
I expect lots of red downvotes.

But if you think about it, the company has a lot of internal friction.
Cuts will help prioritize what to do.
An early estimate from Exec VP was 30% of work we do is useless.
This points to cuts in middle management and flattening.

@d5 It depends on the department, but basically all global team are being downsized. We’ve been well over 10 percent—I think the layoffs are closer to 15 percent—and if you look at yesterday’s numbers, there doesn’t seem to be any improvement in sight, and they probably want to streamline even further.

The specific situation in France is that layoffs must be announced in advance. That has already been done earlier this year. I estimate there will be another major shake-up starting in 2027. Offers to leave the company may be made in advance.

@ak, what do you mean by saying that France will be delayed?! We just had a PSE (job reduction plan) impacting 63 out of 650 on the Ansys side. So I hoped we already fulfilled the 10% quota. What did you exactly hear on this? Please, I really think it’s important for us.

@a4 Some managers have calls scheduled that strongly suggest they’ll be “final calls” or announcements of layoffs in their respective teams. In addition, there was enormous pressure to finish certain tasks by the end of August, and, strangely enough, there are no more appointments scheduled starting in September. August 31 had been on the table for quite some time.
