Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

St. Louis relocation notices next month

St. Louis employees are expected to start getting relocation notices next month. At this point, the direction is obvious. AT&T keeps pulling more jobs into the Dallas area, shrinking its footprint elsewhere, and building toward Plano in 2028.

This is not just another office consolidation. Dallas is clearly winning the location battle inside AT&T, and Plano looks like the final destination. Every round of relocations makes that more obvious. Other offices lose people, lose influence, and lose relevance while North Texas keeps gaining all three.

If you are in St. Louis and still hoping your office will somehow avoid this, that is becoming harder to justify. The company is steadily narrowing the map. More roles go to Dallas, more decisions get centered there, and more employees are being pushed toward the same choice: relocate to Texas or move on.

People can hate the strategy, defend it, or complain about how it is being handled. It does not change the result. St. Louis is losing. Dallas is winning. Plano is winning even more. The center of gravity keeps moving south, and by 2028 there may not be much left to debate about where AT&T wants its future to be.

All roads lead to Plano. The important decisions are made here.

@ak that VP is the biggest hypocrite. Entire org has to be in Dallas or ATL while he sits in St Louis. Disgusting

AT&T has several locations in the St. Louis area - Bridgeton, Creve Coeur, Kirkwood, 1010 Pine and the 801 Chestnut Data Center, plus central offices and local garages. The downtown offices continue to decline in occupancy and that seems to be the continued direction. Rumor has it that 1010 Pine is leased through 2029, though that is no guarantee that people working there have that long. AT&T has seemed to steer clear of Bridgeton but who knows if that will last.

I pray that everyone finds a happy, safe landing spot whether that is internal or external. Moving to Texas or Georgia is a BIG gamble in today's environment and while there are huge numbers of employees there, they also have layoffs like other cities.

AT&T is not the Company many hired on with, or that customers remember, neither of those statements are compliments. AT&T excels at speaking out of the sides of their mouths about caring about customers and employees; yet rarely demonstrate either consistently or genuinely.

I moved from STL to Dallas years ago. It is a big change, especially the cost of living. If i were to have the chance to do it again, I wouldnt make the move.
STL is a great place to live and raise kids. A much simpler life for sure.
The other piece is time- you lose a lot if time living in a big city to commute traffic and general time to get where you need to go.

At this point, the whole company is a sinking ship. They I’ve been playing this game of telling employees to relocate and then retracting it for some, but not for others for a couple of years now. Don’t move for this company.

After 3-4 years of surviving surpluses, my group is next. Moving is not an option, as there is no guarantee you won't be let go after the move, which has happened. Plus, the raise in pay is a joke. It is so not worth it. Time to end this chapter of my life, with the company I thought I was going to be able to retire from. So close to it to! But, the way things are being ran right now AT&T will not last. I am betting AT&T will be gone in 10 years, if not sooner.

St. Louis employees have had over 3 years since the corporate RTO initiative launched. They should be grateful for the additional time to plan and prepare.
