Internal Mobility Process Broken

Has anyone noticed a shift in the way internal job postings are being handled lately.

I’ve been at Citi over a decade, and historically, the internal application process was relatively predictable. If you met the minimum qualifications, you would typically see your status move from "Application Received" to "Recruiter Review."

Recently, I’ve applied for several roles where I meet the qualifications, yet the applications sit in the "Application Received" phase for weeks and then are rejected. I haven't received one interview, and I have been making it a point to apply within the first 48 hours of the posting. I know these are real roles because I can see in Workday that some have been filled.

Has the HR screening process changed? I’ve never experienced this and I’m wondering if I am the only one that is.

If there are a lot of applicants, they can only select so many for interviews, so the earlier you apply the better.

Citi's internal hiring process is a mere formality and the hiring manager usually has a candidate in mind before the posting ever hits the site. They post because they have to. They interview because they have to. But the outcome has already been determined long before you ever even read the posting and said "Hey, this looks interesting. Let me apply."

To hire the guy we wanted we had to go thru the motions, post it, waste our + 5 poor souls time and raise false hopes. We checked the boxes. Yes, after all that he is working out great!

They hold on to them for a couple weeks, and they automatically sp-t them out depending upon what location you are at. If you're job or you're location is set to be reduced Your location is programmed into the computer , and your application is never seen by a human. All joblestings , now require you to be fifty miles from a hub.

At least some of the jobs posted on Citi Workday are fake, but not all. There are ways of detecting which jobs are real and which are not.

  • Poor grammar, misspellings, and long run-on sentences
  • The job keeps getting "re-posted" on LinkedIn, like this evergreen https://jobs.citi.com/job/new-york/prime-finance-senior-business-analyst-vice-president/287/94342829984
  • Job posting and post close date less than a week
  • Salary min and max are the same number? Indian decimal system (comma every two digits)
  • Uber-generic job description
  • Or uber-specific requirements designed to exclude every other member of the human race

Citi HR posts fake jobs as a formality, really as a part of the pipeline for internally-selected H1B / PERM workers. It's required that HR post the job on Workday and/or LinkedIn, but outside candidates will not be selected.

Citi lawyers run cover for these visa shenanigans.

I see the same thing happening, and I don't think AI is the culprit (on the HR side). Apps should be moving faster with AI, not sitting there for weeks.

I was just rejected for a role in my own department by a hiring manager I work with every day. She had no clue I was rejected and had to reach out to HR to have me unrejected and pulled for interviews.
