Am I naive to think we're now safe for a while?

@b6 For those who aren't familiar with the WARN act. (I wasn't and had to look it up).
What is a WARN Notice? A recent change for NJ as well.
A WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice is a legal requirement for employers to inform employees about mass layoffs or plant closures. In New Jersey, this law mandates that employers provide advance notice to affected employees, unions, and local government officials.
Recent Changes to the WARN Act
Notice Period: Employers must now provide 90 days' advance notice of layoffs, an increase from the previous 60 days.
Severance Pay: Employees are entitled to severance pay equal to one week of pay for each full year of employment.
Coverage: The amendments expanded coverage to more employers, including those with 100 or more employees nationwide if they have operated in New Jersey for over three years.
These changes aim to enhance employee protections during economic downturns and ensure that workers have adequate time to prepare for job loss.
@as how can they gut IT anymore? at least in my org, we're easily 70-80% offshore already. our last FTE took the voluntary package and the other US contractor was let go a few months ago as well.
@fn they will call you while you’re on vacation to lay you off. I know a person it happened to. Cigna doesn’t give a F. They want anyone gone they will be gone.
@OP And don't think for one second they wouldn't do a layoff right after the Labor Day holiday. No heart and no soul these big execs.
@OP yes, you are naive.
They normally do a 60 day notification period.
This helps with warn act liability.
@OP Nope. Not safe. There is a confirmed layoff coming for IT. I've heard 10/8 but they normally do a 30 day notification period which would put you in November if the notification is on 10/8. My bet is the week after Labor Day (non-pay week) as the notification date 9/10 with a 30 day notification date which would bring you to the 10/8 date.
