@v5 well no one ever wanted MRAM - never did. So yes it was a big failure flop
@jk who the fu-k runs MRAM?
@pr if you look back is far worse then just those two and always the same leadership faces
The ironic part is that it was the same people at the helm leading both. Different projects, same leadership, same outcome.
@e9 and @ep
MRAM was an outright failure. Another one of those IBM projects that was hyped up, burned through years of effort and resources, and ultimately went absolutely nowhere. What about advanced packaging? IBM doesn’t even do advanced packaging internally anymore, in any capacity. The whole effort was effectively abandoned or outsourced.
@ep Yep, the booth. Right in the arth!
@e9 How about MRAM? How did that go?
Not the booth!
@ab
They are basically untouchable in Albany. How many projects have failed and then just quietly disappeared? 7nm was a catastrophic dumpster fire that contributed to ~1,000 layoffs at GlobalFoundries, yet somehow people here in IBM Albany received huge awards, even CEO Awards, for it. Now we purchase the tech from Samsung. Who developed completely on their own with no help from IBM research or work.
Same with Rapidus, we missed target after target every quarter until we simply stopped talking about it in MCMs. Hoped they wouldn’t ask about it directly. Yet same people get promoted and rewarded.
Make no logical sense until you understand how Albany really operates.
They’re usually protected at that level. At least in Albany, there were so many people who honestly deserved to be held accountable for repeatedly missing milestones and outright failing, yet instead of facing consequences, they were simply moved around. Meanwhile, their subordinates were left to pay the price—working their as--s off trying to somehow deliver on the unrealistic goals set by second-line leadership.
Most managers at IBM are useless POS. The higher they get, the slimier they are.
