Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs 6am on Monday

Layoffs will start 6am on Monday by email. Approx. 11,000 employees. No change in severance from last round. No garden leave- effective immediately. Retroactive WARN notices. Remember WARN also doesn’t apply to remote workers. A similar sized layoff in March. Nearly all teams are expected to solidify AI development processes even further. Teams will begin to transition to big picture small headcount silos. This will begin the shift and divestment from resources abroad to a smaller Oracle <90,000 employees by 2028

@dy I wouldn't be surprised if they actually sell entire GBUs. Like Oil Gas, Hospitality, Cerner (but they keep the data)..

OP, by your math after the 11K get released in the current layoff another 40K will be released in the next 16 months to get down to 90k employees by 2028.

141K head count at the end of the last fiscal year reported by Oracle in the annual report to the SEC so 141K - 11k = 130K 130K - 40k = 90K

This seems aggressive even for Oracle. If this is true the biggest cuts are yet to come.

Wtf. I just saw so many posts on linkedin. How is that even possible if its confidential? I hope it's not accurate. If it is accurate. Oracle's stock should f'ng crater......they remain clueless.

Oracle is like a snake that strikes layoffs notice when one expects the least.

I guess people don’t know that O counts the “garden leave” towards the severance. You don’t get 60 more days of paychecks. Just the 60 more days of health insurance.

Oracle likes to strike layoffs notice when employees are relaxed and expect it the least, such as around the Labor Day weekend ; it’s the Oracle way

@c1 7th would make it the 8th, the day after Labor Day. I got it the day after Labor Day last year.

The thought of no more garden leave though is disturbing.

@c8 That is not true, there is a change freeze in effect for OHAI

Heard from OHAI they were told they were told Friday they are safe this round and that it’s happening tomorrow. Try to enjoy your Sunday. Don’t let them steal any more of your time.

@b6, you don't understand what "retroactive" means. Seems what we mean is "The WARN notice can come after employees are initially notified of the layoff, but it must cover the period leading up to the effective termination date." Correct?

Get lost troll

Retroactive WARN notifications are not legally valid under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act because the law strictly requires 60 days of advance written notice before a plant closing or mass layoff.Key Legal RealitiesAdvance Notice Only: The law has no provision for retroactive or backward-looking notices.

The Penalty for Late Notice: If an employer fails to give the full 60 days of advance warning, they must typically pay back pay and value of benefits for each day the notice was late (up to 60 days).Pay in Lieu: Many companies choose to provide "pay in lieu of notice"—giving immediate termination along with 60 days of salary and benefits. While technically still a violation of the pure advance-notice rule, this payment satisfies the financial penalties required by the statute.

@an yea, but companies basically either need to warn you and keep you working or pay you for the period. But it's focused on plant closing and total reductions per location and for remote work the numbers per location will usually be 1.

@ak WARN is always retroactive to Layoff Announcement and Before your end date. You serve WARN period after layoff announcement and then your end date arrives.

@OP What is meant by “abroad” in your post? Many teams are already quite global. Is this reducing the countries with operations footprints?

agree with @ak - if it's a notice, you give that ahead of time. the freaking name is WARN - i know it's an abbreviation but there is a reason why they slapped that name on the act.

What the F is a "retroactive WARN notice"? WARN is supposed to give advance notice. "Retroactive" would be illegal.
