What’s the over-under for when we announce that we’ll “merge” with BP. I’m guessing Q3 2027.

The computational team has officially been identified as non-essential overhead. While they talk big about accelerating molecular modeling and predictive physics, the reality on the ground is that off-the-shelf generative AI models and vendor-driven copilots are already doing 80% of that heavy lifting at a fraction of the cost.
Instead of delivering proprietary breakthroughs, the team has mostly turned into an expensive storytelling unit crafting polished internal narratives to justify compute budgets that no longer match output.
With executive leadership prioritizing lean operations and immediate ROI across digital tech, maintaining a dedicated in-house computational unit simply doesn't hold up. Expect the function to be absorbed or cut entirely in the upcoming Shell reorg.
Yours truly, McKinsey
This mythical acquisition/merger has been the subject of speculation since at least the 1990s. Each time it pops up the rumor mill claims it’s imminent, happening soon, happening next quarter, next year, blah blah. Don’t bet your next paycheck on it.
Any update on computational team?
New WCK buyer will be bp. No need to restack all to 2 buildings. ESP and the D & S portion of DSW will be shown the door. Q2 subject to share holder approval.
Targeted for Q1. Investors won’t wait much longer than that.
It ain’t happening ever.
