Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Union Buyout Offer.

At least in my area, it seems like pretty much everyone who was offered the buyout is turning it down. Meanwhile, a lot of the people who actually want the buyout weren't offered one.

So what happens if the company is claiming a surplus but not enough people take the offer? Could they eventually move to layoffs? And if they do, would the people who were offered the buyout and chose not to take it be the first ones affected, or would layoffs go strictly by seniority? Also, the local is hush hush about this in my area.

@cd none of any of the politicians on either side of the aisle both which are rich dems and republicans have anything to do with the unions bad decisions on bargaining away our benefits .Our bargained contracts as union members is supposed to protect us from the things most regular nonunion don’t get to be protected from.So again the healthcare issue has been 30 years !!Republican and democrat leadership the only thing that changed was poor bargaining. What Trump or Eric or Biden or anyone else makes per year has no bearing on poor bargaining

@a8 I keep hearing it’s coming soon, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what it is.

@at How are you doing financially, while Trump got two billion dollars richer last year? His sons did pretty good too. Don Jr and Eric, up a half billion $ apiece with unethical gov't contracts. Even Barron, who I don't think even shaves yet, is up to $150 million n net worth. Let me guess your retort - "what about Hunter's paintings?" None so blind as those who refuse to see.

@ca I don't understand how the union does not have the specific info posted on it's website. They had mentioned it on their facebook page and that's it as far as I can tell. I tried calling 827 last Friday for specifics and the phone just rang and rang. Top Secret EISP. 🙄

In New Jersey it’s oddly been offered to almost all but yet a few in the middle in same areas same titles didn’t get the offer.I am unsure if this is a mistake or what.I also just don’t think too many will take it so they would have to offer a better EISP 2 more times before being able to layoff or do anything in same year.We are local 827 IBEW unfortunately the lack of info from the local is actually unbelievable.Usually they will have a spreadsheet sheet with titles ,locations ,surplus amounts.Nothing !!!!so if this is for anyone who wants it that was offered with no limitations on numbers fine then the local should post this. But unfortunately as time has gone on the members have all been shrunk in numbers we have a company run union with leaders who seem to have no idea where to go with info. This was one reason they refused or knew they had no leg to stand on to bargain better retire healthcare and chose to extend .Basically sealing our fate to work till 64.5 year old work force .And I don’t want to hear excuses about trump or political stuff healthcare has been same in country for years .The locals just bargained away our benefits 2 contracts ago.

@a8 the union didn’t sell anybody out and the company didn’t sc--w you over either. This is a nationwide problem. Don’t worry though, Mango Donnie is coming out with a healthcare solution any day now, and has been for the past 10 years! There are a hand full of politicians that are actually concerned about this problem and trying to represent you instead of the big insurance companies, to figure which ones just turn on Fox News and see which politicians they call co-mies.

Probably because no bridge to Medicare in the offer. This company is going to have a bunch of 64 and a half year olds with their employment guaranteed for four more years.

What happens when a buyout is offered and no takers. Offers usually come back around to a wider offering of areas they may not want to get rid of. If those people take it. Then those positions are filled by forced realignment by the areas that didn’t take it in the first place. It’s been this way since the days of GTE and Bell Atlantic.

@a7 No offers in NY. I would think that a few would go if offered here but like in DC the most would stay. Union sold them out with health insurance increases.
