For anyone in pre‑retirement status who is being severed: you are entitled to a retirement celebration. Make use of it. You will receive the celebration only — not the retirement gift — which is perfectly fine, since the gift would have been taxable anyway.
Best thing I ever did was jump that sinking ship and resign!
I’d say it has more to do with “How a transition is done to meet an arbitrary headcount number” vs “how to manage a transition”. Massive blips have been made in the managing of this (hockey-stick building, outdoor parking, sc--wing folks out of rsus, heartless letters sent to staff, terrible treatment of dual careers, no hybrid transition, etc etc) but it is the Order from the Royal DW that takes the cake.
DW: i want 300 of your jobs in Houston, cost be damned!
JW: Sir, yes sir! Consider it done! I’ll move 300 overseas too!
DW: …And did i shut down your research centre yet? Centralize all process overseas and within Exxon HQ, and ensure all high-level managers and decision makers are in Houston, essentially making you (as a separate company) completely dependent on us to survive and make any decisions?
JW: Yes sir, and yes sir, we humbly defer to your divine guidance for all investment decisions! I thank you for my obedience!
DW: And move to Edmonton. Near the refinery. You little people can collaborate better there. I like the smell of Benzene in the morning.
JW: Obviously sir! I won’t go there as the industry is based in Calgary, but as we will only engage with Exxon and not outside parties, this is a brilliant move for the rest of the worker bees sir!
DW: I like the cut of your jib Jack….Jason. I mean, JW. Remind me to give you around 95,000 RSUs. Take your allotment from the rest of the Imperial stooges that you “care” about.
JW: I humbly accept! You make fleecing a once proud Canadian company look easy!
And remember to donate to the United Way because we care about others….
Morale is so low and people keep resigning. It’s just a steaming tu-d right now. This has been a case study for how not to manage a transition
It's a close race between layoffs and voluntary resignations, but both seem to be accelerating!
It still su-ks and the MC is totally getting it all wrong in every way,
