Anyone noticed posts on LinkedIn from Oracle employees saying they are getting retired? Saw at least 4 of them. Recent example one older guy saying he wanted to stay until retirement but they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. What happened there, anyone knows?

Got my package at 51 and now retired on a beach in Italy. Life couldn’t be any better

Taleo is used to rank you and your value. Management input not so much.
@js It's less risky to lay you off. A PIP needs a paper trail. With a layoff they wave severance at you and 99.999% will sign on the dotted line.
@f0 How about that improving odds for getting fired or put on PIP?

@e8 Perhaps make it known to management that you are OK with being let go. No guarantee that you will be selected for the next one, but it improves your odds.
@eb FWIW even directors were informed of their RIF via emails.
Lots of 50 year olds were laid off. Many will have a very tough time finding work. I know more than one who took a near menial job, often just for the health insurance.
If you are pushing sixty you might as well retire.
but they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
buy-outs or the mob exit?
@eq How levels above direct manager even know who to lay off if they don’t consult manager who knows the value of given employee? I understand when criteria is high salary but what other criteria do they use?
@b3 Not true. Managers have little to no say in the layoffs. Most don't find out until last minute.
May be he was a senior manager or director vp with high salary working for 20+ years with RSUs. So yes they can live comfortabely with what they saved. Not like the non managers that's get fired with one single email.
How can I get on this RIF/Retirement List as well? It's a little too soon (almost 62) but I can make it work.
@bs I assume it was March RIF, so why posting retirement update now? I thought it was some new deal like Microsoft offered older employees some retirement plan.
Last month I have noticed on Lnkdn that suddenly O people (now former O employees) from Hungary and Romania switched with „open to work” status.
@OP,
one older guy saying he wanted to stay until retirement but they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. What happened there, anyone knows?
It means he was RIF'd and took the severance. (same thing happened to me)
Manager’s pets get special treatment.
What is happening? Continuation of the 3/31 purge is what is happening.
