Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why is Via Benefits trying so hard to reach me?

Via Benefits is leaving messages that Wells Fargo authorized them to call me about Medicare. I did search and found them to be some sort of insurance advisory company. Before I call them back, does anyone have any experience with Via Benefits? Seems fishy, lots of companies want to “help” us Senior folks with Medicare.

Maybe they have a free knee brace offer that has a stage coach logo?!

@hp that is 100% false. A simple search on google will tell you that. As long as you work for a company with more than 20 employees and are covered by a group plan there is no negative consequence at 65 or in the future of not registering for Medicare prior to your 65th birthday.

If you are 65+ and covered by a group plan, you can sign up for Medicare part A since there is no premium for it, however, if you do that you can no longer contribute to a HSA account.

Your name is probably in the laid off or retired list - Via reaches out to such individuals.

@d4 Wrong! Medicare is not irrelevant; you may not need it yet because you are covered with WF, but you still have to enroll or you will face Medicare penalty payments when you enroll later. ALWAYS enroll/register with Medicare in the 3 months prior to turning 65.

Talk to a medicare insurance broker that is referred to you by someone you know. Talk to 2 or 3. make a decision based on that, not a marketer. My strong admonition is DO NOT get Medicare Advantage. Congress will be gutting that soon and if you don't get your part B supplemental policey within x months of not being with an employer like WFC or age 65 and you have ANY health condition, you will be out of luck. 20% of 10s of thousands is a lot of money....

are you still working for WF? if you are, WF still provides health insurance and medicare is irrelevant even if over 65.

Can't be legit if tied to Wells Fargo

@OP , don’t blindly believe they know what they’re talking about. They don’t know about IRS look back rules related to HSA contributions and important stuff like that. They just want you to sign up for stuff. Seek a real advisor to know the implications for your specific situation before deciding.

Via Benefits services are a Wells Fargo service. If you are close to hitting 65 via Benfits can help you with Medicare sign up. My spouse was extremely pleased with their assistance. I called them, too, when my benefits were over and they recommended good coverage for me. Give them a call, they are very educated about health insurance.
