Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It's happening. 5x RTO mandate is about to crack.

Enough people around Stankey have finally gotten in his ear and policy changes are in the works. Senior HR leadership is preparing to roll it out in the next 6-12 months.

It will be presented as a "change to presence report requirements."

It will most likely involve quarterly presence requirements instead of weekly, with some (probably not a ton) of leeway for occasional work from home.

The biggest factor motivating the change is problems attracting and retaining new hires - especially younger workers.

Nobody will tell Stankey directly that he was wrong, but it's being couched as "You've done an amazing job transforming our culture! We're ready to take the next step now."

He's bought into that.

Until Marissa Mayer is on the board, this is not going anywhere. Absolute L of a person. Hope she sticks on to her position and milks it.

@fb "Do you have any clue what the job markets looks like today? Do you know how many 'young' people are struggling because they don't have a 9-5? Do you understand the anxiety people feel when they get laid off? No!
And yet here you are whining about having a job paying you money so that you can pay your bills.
What an immature sn-t nose you are to constantly complain about having to go to work!"

Amen!

The Board should be fired....and they should have put StinkyStank to pasture years ago....he has destroyed shareholder value with his many failed acquisitions and has ruined the culture of this once proud and innovative company.....now we are fiber and wireless....2 commodity businesses...nice job John....

@ed Marisa Meyer was also an absolute disaster at Yahoo. Great to see we have such top leadership talent in the fold.

@OP. Nonsense post. Your claims that possible mandate to move away from RTO because ATT wont be able to attract younger new hires is silly and unsubstantiated. Do you have any clue what the job markets looks like today? Do you know how many 'young' people are struggling because they don't have a 9-5? Do you understand the anxiety people feel when they get laid off? No!

@OPNews Flash -- Marissa Mayer sits on ATT's board of directors. She was the former Google, but more infamously, Yahoo CEO who mandated NO working from home policy. This was in 2012/2013!!
Apparently you're dreaming or making up lies that ATT will pull back its RTO policy.
Mayer now sits on ATTs board. How much influence do you think she has about RTO now?
Find another topic. For goodness sakes.

@b2 FULL TIME is 40 hrs a week, which is 5 days a week - at WORK

If you are at Costco on work time or sleeping or using mouse movers or mowing your lawn, or simply not available, you are PART TIME, if that.

Payments, if they are made into hourly wages - you will be in for a much overdue, life-altering shock

Stankey isn’t spending $1B on a new HQ in Plano for people to go back to hybrid work. 5 days in office is his brand.

@ap one thing is for sure a boost in collaboration or productivity was NOT increased with 5 Day RTO.

Not really.
People are not working, whether in office or at home.
Mass layoffs is more accurate to be honest

Why do people post this stuff? RTO is Stankey’s brand. He’s one of the lead spokespeople for the Coalition of the Asinine when it comes to this and he loves it. Look at how much they push it in job posts, way more aggressively than I see elsewhere even for 5-day in office roles.

Always remember: They don’t care and Stankey always bats 1.000 in his own mind.

6-12 months = never gonna happen.

What takes 6-12 months? Its not a complicated policy. Think about it, when covid gave us the sniffles, we were a;; but shuttered within a matter of weeks. To this day, many teams are still supporting hybrid schedules as well as fully remote.

Saying that they need 6-12 months to change 'requirements' is nonsense. We are an Agile company. aren't we? Teams could implement a 4/1 policy tomorrow if they wanted to. Remember, just because we have a policy doesn't mean that managers have to allow it. That's the way it should be. High performers should be permitted hybrid. 8 & skate should be office-bound. Keep in mind that before the snifflegeddon, remote/hybrid work was a luxury you earned, not an entitlement.

Stank will not change his position on RTO, case closed. He lives for inflicting pain and discomfort on his employees. It is his way of letting us all know he is the “boss”. Not your supervisor, not your AVP, VP or SVP or Officer… they all blindly march to his orders, no matter how absurd or antiquated they may be.

The subsidies provided by the city of Plano for the new HQ are conditioned on 10,000 in office full time employees.

Stankey listens to no one. He’s the mastermind of his own world. Why listen to any of his leadership team when he already knows what he wants.
They don't care if younger workers bolt for the door. Train new hires again until they stay. It’s a marketplace culture now, no one is above the work requirements.
Look around, companies arent hiring right now. That favors T and not the employees.
