Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

NE VZW contract in September

Northeast CZW tech who are being forced into the Union are getting their comp sheets in September and will have 30 days to decide if they will be joining the Union or will be laid off by the end of year

Is this actually legal to force employees into the Union?

@a4 they aren't. They are switch techs. All NorthEast meaning from Wilmington, Maple shade, Wayne, Branchburg, Jersey City, Westboro, hookset etc
All those switches are no longer going to be Verizon Wireless they are now VZB

@OP not sure of the legal question but more importantly it’s not relevant in this situation. No one is being forced to do anything, a choice is given that that employee will make.

@a8 nothing changed and this statement is completely false. If dues are being deducted from a paycheck then that means that employee is a union member.

@OP it has happened multiple times with other techs and different states, gts, xo, data centers, testing teams...they present you an offer letter saying that if you do not accept by a date you are resigning from vz. Previously the offers were solids in benefits including pensions....not sure nowdays

And tacking onto to my previous response, even if someone doesn't agree to join the union, they aren't magically considered management employees. They still follow associate guidelines, pay, seniority, etc. They are still considered associate employees

Unless something has changed, everyone has the option to join or not join the union, however, if someone does not agree to join the union, the union still takes dues from your paycheck. So I guess, depending on your perspective, yes you can be forced, if it's a union position that's you've been hired to do

If they are being hired as field techs, Central office techs then yes they need to join union.
