I didn't take the VSP because I didn't have any other income or enough in my savings to last and that vsp money could only last so long. I didn't think I'd find a job by September as we all presumed initially everyone who took the vsp would be gone by then. The involuntary layoffs have already taken place on my team. I feel guilty that I dont feel more relieved than I thought I would. The environment has changed and it is not the same as it use to be. I am not optimistic at all about Centene's future. Not to mention that we will now be more overloaded with work than ever before for those left here. I naturally want to apply out but feel obligated to stay because that couldve been someone else's job. Anyone else relate?

@hb Definately not better being laid off or fired. Accepting the vsp is much better than living with uncertainty about what may happen later. The direction of the company is pretty clear: outsourcing and automation.
The fact that severence would be taxed was pretty straight forward for those who did their homework before making their decision. What people can’t know, especially in these days working for the company, is what their future here will actually look like.
Yes, I feel the same as you do except what people don't realize is that the VSP was only beneficial to the company, not for the employees. You get taxed on the severance pay at 22%. Then you get taxed again on income earned. It will put you in a higher tax bracket and basically you get nothing in the end. It is better to be laid off or fired. VSP was just the beginning of what is yet to come.
The only bad part was only having 2 weeks or less to make this life changing decision. Even if you wanted to retire, it would take time to sign up for Medicare, gets things done ahead of time in order to be able to navigate. I wanted to take the VSP but could not do all the things that needed to be done in order to take it. So now I sit and wait to see if I will be RIF'd in the near future.
The VSP seemed a little sketchy to me so it w snt something id consider. I feel like you all were lured in under a r false pretense. Yes they moved the goal posts and yes the docs said they could, but everyone that applied should have been given an opportunity to back out AFTER their date was decided.
Everyone has a different journey.. some are meant to be laid off, leave and quit or take a VSP …. Listen to your gut and your decision is yours alone …: whatever happened or has was meant to be ! We will all be ok ! I refuse to believe this is the end all !!!! It is not !!! Just a stepping stone and even if now or in the future, we will all take the step
@ad I agree with what you are saying, but that person would be at the company longer and allow more time to find a job.
@OP I was accepted for the VSP. Since my separation date was pushed out to Aug 2027, I was able to email Julie Carew and have my VSP pulled. I was hoping since I pulled my VSP I would be chosen for the RIFs. My plan did not work in my favor, I’m still here.
They should allow people who are being laid off involuntary, switch with another member in the same role that took the VSP.

I understand your thoughts and think it is admirable. However, if you would have taken the VSP, anyone following after you is not guaranteed any longevity with Centene. I agree with the others. Do what is best for you. You don’t owe Centene.
No, if you can find another job take it! Centene will have no remorse about cutting you if/when they need more money for Sara's AI tokens.
