Why Don’t They Do Voluntary Separation Packaged

If they want to maintain or improve morale while still slashing headcount, why not offer voluntary separation packages to those who have been at the company over 8 years? You’d get headcount down, limit the angst for those who perform well and want to be there, and you can control the narrative a bit. You offer the package with a hard deadline and you celebrate those who leave with service anniversary ceremony at year end.

There is deep-seated proximity bias and institutional turf wars promoted by leadership. This favoritism breeds an environment where leaders protect their own resources like kingdoms rather than collaborating toward shared enterprise goals. Daily work feels like exhausting exercise in navigating political silos

They won't offer it, it is cheaper just to do layoffs once in a while, find out who the people that "group think" to try and keep their job no matter what, and then get rid of whomever else that gets in the way. Then they upset enough people or make the work environment awful enough most will quit or leave and then they don't have to pay those people anything. They aren't concerned with keeping the best people even though they gaslight everyone there that the rest left are there because they deserve to be.

@aj as one of those people I would totally get the exit package. Some I know voluntarily left and switched jobs to avoid the gloomy vibes of a failing circus we got with Pulte fella and Peter as a chief clown

@OP my best guess is because there are certain leads, advisors and principals who are workhorses of the organization and they would prefer them to stay. Although at the level where they are making these decisions, they probably have no clue who is who and what is what.

@OP

They want more control over who gets cut and the timing. So, as good as that sounds, it's unlikely to happen here.

I’d like that very much. So burnt out by these random job cuts. One day we are working on some deadlines as if that is so important, another day the entire team/project is gone.
