Despite the Bias training, several systemic and psychological factors allow "like-minded" hiring to persist:
The "Culture Fit" Trap: Companies often tell managers to hire for "culture fit." Without strict definitions, managers we-ponize this phrase to reject highly qualified candidates who don't match their personal background, communication style, or hobbies.
The Mini-Me Effect (Affinity Bias): Humans naturally gravitate toward people who share their experiences, alma maters, or career paths. A two-hour training session rarely overrides a lifetime of this hardwired psychological comfort.
Decentralized Decision-Making: Even if a company has great HR policies, the final hiring decision usually rests with a single line manager. If that manager holds biases, they can easily bypass the training's intent during the final interview stage.
Superficial Training: Many corporate training programs are passive "check-the-box" exercises. They teach people what bias is, but they rarely provide the accountability or structural changes needed to stop it.

You can click on Cigna, Elevance, Humana, Optum, any Health Insurance corporation on here and see the EXACT same justifiable employee concerns as to the rapid erosion of the American workforce at rate we have never seen. And we are being replaced mInly with Indians, at least until AI takes over. But every time someone speaks out they get called a racist, which os untrue. We American citizens just want our jobs! If anything the Indians are inly hiring other Indians so I ask you, who is racist in their hiring practices? Because it is not the American citizens it is the Indians.

Emblem still exists. I was working for them years ago when all of this happened. They owned a small, wonderful CT based health plan called ConnectiCare and contracted with Cognizant to offshore a huge chunk of the business to save money and destroy the company for profit. Overnight, ConnectiCare employees became Cognizant employees, FTEs were sent to India to train staff, people were laid off, a ton of talent left. Morale went into the toilet, people turned on each other, all trust and decency was gone, It was a nightmare. They migrated all of their business to Facets so they could control it all (since Cognizant owns Facets). Then Emblem sold them off and now ConnectiCare is part of Molina. The End.

Agree. 10 years is a very long time in business for nothing to change, especially with the kind of things taking place today.

@aq Just go to their layoff page for your self, click the recent button for sorting to see the most recent posts first. And you will see two things, the latest post was in 2016, ten years in the past and then the posts completely stopped. So, why did the posts completely stop for 20 years now? Second thing you will notice is the posts are written almost as though they could have been written by someone here today. Meaning, in 2016, they had the same issue with India and Philippines taking over their (American) jobs. And they had the very same treatment by their middle level leaders trying to push them out. And they had the exact same issues with executives putting greed and shareholders BEFORE the running of the business, which is putting members first, as they are the true customer, NOT shareholders.

@OP didn't really undersatbd your example here . Looks like Emblem is still in business and one of the largest non-profit health insurance companies in the United States

@a4 Agree, if you read the posts on Emblem Insurance layoffs site. Doesn’t matter that they are smaller company. The point is, this offshoring and H-1B Visa issue that jas been displacing American citizen workers has been going on for over 10 years. Over two different presidents.

I think we all need to start voicing our opinions on this more loudly and effectual in hopes we can the favor of the national media and our federal government to help is.

We don’t blame the foreign workers. We blame these corporations and their executive leadership that are choosing to displace their own fellow citizens. Very unpatriotic!

@a4 That's just not true. Emblem was one of my clients when I was in UM at Magellan, not that long ago. They're just much smaller than Centene. They're only in NY.
