Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Can a manager increase your pay during the year?

Are pay raises only set by higher ups? Or can your direct manager ask HR to increase your pay?

@ak happened to me. Was very lowly paid at my level and was rated a 1. Finally got an adjustment and dishonorable MD cut my bonus by very close amount. Needless to say when he got fired for conduct unbecoming no tears were shed

You realize this site is about layoffs right? People come here and share stories about life changing events upon losing their jobs. And you ask some silly question about a mid year pay raise? Read the room.

@a1 So basically, if the worker was white and Anglo Saxon as was the manager, the raise would come through? If the worker was say, black and the manager white and Anglo Saxon, the raise would not come through?
Got it.
Modern day Rosa Parks, eh?

Maybe pre Bora Bora but there's no way now, I haven't heard or know of a single person getting that.

There are occasional market rate adjustments that have happened at random times. I also got a significant increase ( like 20k) midyear once because I was lower than the rest of my team. So possible, but not often.

C15, Decades at Citi, have never encountered an off cycle raise across 100s of co workers UNLESS it is a counter offer and that was maybe 2 or three. Count on NOT. They may howevere lower your bonus 20k to offset the 20k raise, flat at best. G'bless the counteroffers....

Apply for a new job internally or externally, that is the only realistic way

Over the years I have only seen a mid-year raise happen alongside an "in-seat" / mid-year promotion to another level (C13>C14). HR requires a certain percentage bump when that happens. Happening a lot less lately, but I just got an email a few weeks ago with about 50 people in my division that got them.

@OP raises mid-year are unheard of these days.

@OP Sure you can if your manager is if same caste or race! But if not, be prepared to get fired for asking for a raise.
