Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Can somebody explain this to me?

They offered VSP. Then they turned down a fifth of people who said yes. Now they're laying folks off involuntarily. Why? Why didn't they just approve everybody who said yes?

They never turns down a fifth of who applied they said that 4 out of five people who were being let go were done so through the vsp. Meaning that not enough people applied for the vsp.

@bf we were told this as well. They already had a list of people to let go before vsp. Then the vsp results changed the list.

I heard that they had the list of people to layoff months ago, befor VSP was even announced. If people on that list applied they automatically got an early departure date. Those not on the list got later separation dates. Those left on the initial list were always going to be laid off. The managers had zero input , or at least the lower level managers didn’t. We lost a team member to the layoff and I can say for certain that she was not the highest paid team member. She transferred to our team a couple of months ago but has been with Centene since 2022. It makes no sense at all, as our team is already short staffed and has tons of work. We are on the technology side of Cemtene.

No one from our plan was denied VSP. Today I was let go after 6 years with Centene and 8 months in a leadership role. It’s because I make more than other less tenured supervisors.

2 people from my team cut today (I’m one of them). They are cutting the higher salaried team members.

@aa I am curious if you can share why it was rejected?

One of my team members had their VSP rejected, so they did not accept everyone who applied.

@OP "one-fifth" is what they have left to rif... they got 4/5 to volunteer of the total they had budgeted to be gone. Example, if the original number was 15k, and they got 4/5 (12k), they have 3k left to let go.

I don’t believe anyone who applied for the VSP was denied. I think the ones being RIFd might be ones who didn’t qualify for the VSP maybe? It makes zero sense why they just don’t let the ones who applied for the VSP just go early like originally in Sept instead of dragging out everyone’s release date and staggering it out. Now we have people being let go this week

No one from my team applied for VSP. They may not have hit numbers needed in each dept. There were also a chunk of people not eligible for VSP they may want to RIF

What makes you believe they turned down a fifth of people who applied? I've not seen anybody get their application outright rejected, only deferred into next year.
