Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

The stress is suffocating

The leadership is driving this company into the ground. I know people say the grass isn't always greener, but at this point, I'm not sure it could be worse. I just need a way out, even if it comes with less pay. I don't give a damn anymore.

Based. 9:30 - 4:00, with an hour break to hit the gym. That’s 5.5 hours heads down time. If those hours are good enough for Wall Street, they’re good enough for me. I show up every day. I’m not out for 6 months mat leave every 2 years, seeing a rotating list of doctors during the middle of the afternoon, doing school drop off, or out of office for weeks at a time due to various health problems.

@k0 I’m in a similar spot. I do my job and hit my goals, but I could still experience RIF next spring. I’ve seen it happen to great workers.

Therefore, I don’t work more than 40 hours a week because doing so would not
A: reduce my risk of RIF
B: increase my chance at a 4 rating or promotion

I do care, but I only do what I can within my normal work hours and, if something doesn’t get done, I don’t stress it because it’s not worth it. If I lose my job it’s because the company is unreasonable in its demands, not because I failed, and I don’t want to work someplace like that anyway.

So put in your 40 and chill. Don’t let them eat you up.

@k0 Seriously, I had to check that I didn’t write this post - exactly how I feel! It IS so liberating!

If you don’t give a damn, why are you stressed out?
I don’t give a damn and this job is chill af! You know why? Because whether they give me a promotion or lay me off or fire me, I don’t give a damn. It’s really liberating.

@dn how do you know you're getting laid off?

I have no doubt this layoff is going to be the best thing that has happened to me and for my career. Clinging on to "comfort" by way of anxiety and stress is no way to live. If you still have a job you have an opportunity to continue to pay your bills while you search for a new role or even build the skills for a different career path than you are on now. Good luck and hang in there!

Medtronic wants us to quit so that they can hire cheaper people.

Medtronic has been a great place to work and grow. Work is not going to be all fun since we get paid to do the work assigned to us. I am not sure there is so much victim mentality. No company is going to pay you to do no work because of stress. Would you hire people who don’t work? I don’t think this has anything to do with GM as people will be bashing new CEO once GM retires or leaves.

I feel your pain. This company is toxic and I left many years ago. You can fix this - look at other healthcare companies. Medtronic is the worst of the lot and Geoff Martha is a great example of what this Board cares about and believes in. Don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s deadtronic, not you,

Don’t let the toxic people bring you down.
The grass can be greener and was for me.
Hope it can be for you too.
