Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Cognizant...

The majority of Centene jobs are going to be outsourced to India for pennies on the dollar. Think about it.....Why would they keep us and spend large US Salaries/Benefits costs, when they can take our work to India, utilize AI, and viola 1hr worth of work done for 5 or 10 cents on the dollar. This is a business and no one cares about your financial/family situations. Sad, but true. It's the harsh reality. It might now happen tomorrow, but most likely in the next 1 to 10 years I'm sure of it.

@OP I've dealt with Cognizant for 20 years. I honestly don't know how they are still in business. They replace one excellent US programmer with 5 mediocre (at best) programmers, rarely release anything "amazing", but yet keep promising to be just "weeks away" from a major fix. I honestly think their business model is to get in, embed themselves, and incur so most cost that the CIO who brought them in can't let them go without egg on their face. Then they milk that for 10 years. Gotta be.

@hs If no one has been overseas to see how REAL public/private healthcare competition works, then STFU. Our healthcare system was completely sc--wed when they mandated that you HAD to buy insurance from a private healthcare company. Thanks Mr. Liebermann. In other counties such as Malaysia, they have EXCELLENT care at ridiculously affordable private-pay prices, because the private companies compete directly with a free government option.

I was laid off from Centene along with 3000 others in early 2021. Found a new job fairly quickly, but after 4 years had to leave that job to keep my sanity. They used teams that worked all night (our time) in India and then you have a very short time to ask them questions before they sign off work for the day, which is right when we would be starting our workday here. It was a cl**ster.

The job I was initially hired for ended up turning into something completely different, and I was not interested in running a team that was 99% located in India. Good luck to all job hunters, especially those that encounter this situation.

I am just now looking for a job after taking some time off. Hoping to pivot to something that is not an insurance company.

@dx More skilled ? Ok that’s wrong. Also I have nothing against these people but who can understand wtf they are saying half the time. I hope to god I am dead soon . I spent 20 years in nursing. A sh-t ton of money and student loans to get as a single mother and busted my ba--s to get here get laid off and have nothing to show for it. Only to have other countries people move in and take it all.

@dx Although, I probably would have said it more delicately, I do agree with what this person’s post is conveying. But I don’t even think it will take that long: I believe more like 5-10 years. I saw it happen in Toronto and also London. I am not saying it is a good or bad thing, just that America’s population mix and storefronts, and new laws, etc. will look and be much different.

In 20 years, America will be know as “Little India”. You are starting to hear that the only way for America to beat China at rare minerals mining is to bring in Indian workers, as they are more skilled. Same story told in the tech industry. Hottest vacation spot for would be Indian mothers to have American born babies to gain citizenship will be the “Gulf of India”

There is also the CMS API final rule implementation taking place that will integrate many of the corporate and state level policies into InterQual. It is supposed to increase information exchange and faster prior authorization turn around times. Implementation of this, including increased usage of cognizant and the UM optimization initiative are focused on more automated approvals, requiring less manual reviews by staff which will inevitably lead to more RIFs I fear. Unfortunately, this will also increase provider and member abrasion.

Yeppp and this is all just opinion. No one really knows what's going to happen for sure..... I'm hopeful they will keep jobs in the US so everyone can still be employed and maybe bring back people they laid off.. current and former employees can only hope leadership does what is right. And not always for profit. And bring back employees!

@b9 Even better. We need something like this to replace the C-suite/VPs: https://overpaid.lol/

@az
The Directorship and VP positions should be outsourced. Most are paid to do NOTHING. Staff below directorship are paid pennies on the dollar.

@b4
Your post appears to be a form of political messaging. Private industries have been doing this for decades.

This is why government run Healthcare is horrible and should be avoided at all costs. While more and more jobs and manufacturing is being onshore, we are undermining our workforce increasingly.

No doubt, Centene will definitely start going down the drain by having outsourced almost everything. And the mistakes that AI and streamlining will bring are going to be catastrophic for a long time to come. They'll eventually break even with customer satisfaction, but in the meantime, enjoy the sh-t show.

Cognizant will no doubt take many jobs to India. And quality will go down the drain. I’m expecting my position to be sent offshore. Preparing now and looking elsewhere.

Completely agree. We can’t work for a for profit corporation and then complain about greed and capitalism. We enjoy the salary and benefits - until layoffs, then everyone complains (me included) lol

@OP there are teams in place that India does. Medicare appeals non member cases are being done by India now, and more to come. I just was just RIF’d in February due to offshore people brought on!

@OP why? “We do what’s right. Not what’s easy.”

Lack of ownership and accountability, rushed work with insufficient guardrails, and English as a second language with a large portion of the workforce will undoubtedly lead to mistakes, lower CSAT, and fines the like of which we’ve never seen before.

Holy long sentence, Batman.

This company isn’t ready for scaling AI. They couldn’t even scale basic implementations when I was there.

Grab some popcorn and watch these clowns spiral down the drain in the next few quarters.
