Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Managers are managing 10x

I’ve been with this company for 11 years, and I’m genuinely proud of that. Centene gave me opportunities to grow—I worked in multiple departments, earned several promotions, and in all that time I’ve never received a write-up, a warning, or any form of disciplinary action. I’m even walking away from 140 hours of unused sick time.

What’s interesting is that after accepting my departure and joining the 9/4 exit group, my PL has suddenly become extremely micromanaging. Procedures that have been in place for months are now being scrutinized, and things that were never an issue before are suddenly worthy of concern.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but it does make me wonder if there’s an effort to build a paper trail or find reasons to let people go before their scheduled end date. I sincerely hope that’s not the case.

This all sounds way too familiar.

my manager has been up my a-s about every little thing. The funny part? They're constantly asking us the TEAM for help in chat!

Nobody seems to have answers. The Teams chat is filled with people asking questions, and who ends up helping? The rest of the team. My PL is always tied up in meetings and never answers questions, yet somehow there's always time for casual chit chat in Teams like we're all best friends singing Kumbaya.

Meanwhile, everyone is quietly freaking out, wondering what's going to happen next. Layoffs aren't a joke. These are people's lives, careers, and families we're talking about. The silence is exhausting, and if you dare bring it up, you're made to feel like you're the problem.

I'm tired of being micromanaged. I'm tired of being nitpicked over things that were never even communicated to me in the first place. The communication is terrible. Coming to work feels like he-l. At this point, I find myself wondering, what's the point of even being here?

We already spend all day dealing with people on the phones who don't want to talk to us. Now we're dealing with this constant uncertainty on top of it.

You do your best to stay professional, but what more do you want from me? And why am I constantly doing the job you're supposed to be doing as an PL answering questions that your constantly neglecting ?

@a3 managers are treating some like sh-t and their friends like
Gold. My manager isn’t even here a week or more a month. So please save that.

@cs I could be blurring the line between Centene and Wellcare. I might be thinking back to before we were bought.

I never worked in a department that handled financial info or provided IT support, so I was thinking what I have seen in past was department dependent, but you might be right, maybe Centene cuts everyone off right away.

I better prepare myself for some harshness if I get caught up in layoff. Now that I think about it, my current position is even easier to cut someone same day than my past position.

The upside is I am not nearly as close to my coworkers as I was, so maybe it wouldn't feel as harsh as I think! LOL.

@c0 Did Centene allow you to work your 2 weeks when you notified them you were leaving. Every team I've been on, soon as the person puts in their two weeks they were not permitted to keep working. Confused about that.

@cn PL are representing the Company, so they are basically one & the same. Just my opinion.

Personal tort claims. I don’t think it’s the company at this point, it’s just unethical PL.

@OP The micromanagement from my PL recently is horrible. Focusing on metrics that we don't even have anymore. Telling us not to close cases if we would be in danger of falling below 75. Then sending emails saying cases are too old. 351 calls monthly regardless of having to spend 2 hours in Warm Transfer queue, regardless of having to spend 2 hours on TOC/MRP members, regardless of having a medical appointment. Not to mention how certain team members are favored. I am keeping a very detailed paper trail in case I am let go prior to my VSP being paid out. I will obtain a lawyer if that happens. There are plenty of attorneys who will file wrongful termination suits & only get their fee paid when they win the settlement. Centene has become a toxic he-l hole & I hope Karma pays them a visit. Members need to know how this company treats their employees. Disgraceful.

@bn I have been feeling the same since late May. Also have had NO work for the last two months. Offered to help others and while my PL has asked us to be flexible and advised we may be asked to assist on some temporary work - nothing has come along. Definitely feeling like a sitting duck. She also double checks and micromanages on EVERYTHING. Additionally our Senior Director advised us on Friday that layoffs are coming mid-August and there is a departure date but she would not divulge what that date is.

@OP Are they questioning as if you are doing things wrong or are they questioning like they might know fully know the process or logic?

Part of me wonders if they know knowledge they don't have is about to walk out the door and they are trying to learn it quickly.

No they're either really trying to get you out without any benefits (VSP, layoffs, etc) or the People Leader is really feeling that pressure and trickling down to you. Either way it's shady and unjust. I would start documenting everything (treatment, directives, shift in expectations, etc.). Get ready because they're coming for you or the People Leader.

I have felt it too! Actually started in the spring. I was offered the VSP, however was also offered a new position. Yes, I had started looking. Anyway took the new job and left. The lack of support for one another is really sad.

My PL has never once asked me for an update as to where I'm at on certain things. He's messaged me daily for the past week wanting updates. I wasn't eligible for the VSP, but I'm being scrutinized, or he is. I've never even had so much as a "talking to" about my work. I'm constantly getting good feedback and praise. Something definitely feels off.

@OP you are not overthinking! This micromanaging cr-p is happening company wide! It's amazing how they will stab you in the back. I don't know why people can't just be nice to one another. Lawyers are on stand by!
