Enrique said they are on track to remove three organizational layers to increase spans of control this year in the Q&A email. What does this mean?

@gx hopefully this is a bellwether and they're flattening the company. I don't work at PayPal myself but I've worked at similar size companies that did lots of acquisitions. Eventually we just had so many managers, scheduling meetings with each other just to appear busy, and making insane amount of money. They finally flatten the organization and fired all those guys, and absolutely nothing was impacted. I'm hoping PayPal is done similarly, and becomes a lot leaner. If this is how it ultimately goes down, I will have to give Enrique a major credit as a shareholder myself.
Just got an email that my org’s SVP is leaving to “pursue an exciting new external opportunity”. Found the timing interesting after seeing this post

Even in the customer service call based roles (my dept anyway) you have too many smaller teams doing the exact same thing.
You have team leaders with 10 staff and there's also a senior agent for each team. These 5 or 6 teams can be condensed down to 3 larger teams getting rid of some tls and sa. Then they have a handful of acting tls and acting sa on any given day doing sweet fu-k all.
I dont know what management are at in my dept but there seems to be a never ending growing list of people to report to who don't look like they do very much at all.
There's a lot of bloat in this company. They really did over hire during COVID and are now still getting rid of some of this bloat.
@bx I don't really want anyone to lose their job anyway, because I'm not some monster. However, if it's criminally overweight management, who are undoubtedly making a lot of money, seems like a win-win to me. I'd rather they get rid of excessive management as opposed to engineers.
We need to let go of managers who take themselves too seriously and act like they’re better than everyone else. We’ve all worked for those types who have an inflated sense of self-importance.
@bp Alex chriss hired too many SVP's and too many VP's. Dan Schulman had too many senior managers-senior directors. There are just too too many to make sense. Sadly, I expect numbers to be high for manager, senior manager, VP, and Senior Director.
When he mean layers, is he talking about group leaders, directors, VPs, team leaders? Who are we expecting to be impacted?
@OP firing useless layers of bureaucracy, AKA middle management.
