Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

MetLife is really good at this

Our SLT is just so damn good at mandating the people who ACTUALLY DO THE WORK attend repetitive meetings. Apparently it's not enough to have the CEO, CFO, HR head, various EVPs pat themselves on the back for all of the wonderful things they do to make our lives easier (yes, this is sarcasm), they need to take turns leading meetings several times a month to repeat the same delusional cr-p. I just can't do this anymore. This company is so absurd.

@qy that maybe true normally but those that I was working with on Quadient got told no more PTO, vacations, holidays and no raises as “they couldn’t quantify expenses” so what they all started doing was calling in sick and their company was giving their PTO/holiday time back in sick time. lol I wrote a letter for one of them to quantify his value so he could get a raise (months after I left lol) and he was sharing it with the others too lol Met is a horrible company sc--wing all for the board c suite bonuses. And yes normally off shore works less days than US but most of the ones I worked with were forced to work 10-12 hour days and a lot of times weekends. But only making 40-50k at most.

@pf please, those people get more paid holidays than the rest of the company combined! They also support the US but don't have to work US hours when US employees actually need things to get done. They wouldn't know toxicity if it appeared in their favorite curry dish.

@j7 I didn't know they were sc--wing them in India, too.

@jh Gotta love the lay-off -> stock buyback cycle.

Shoot myself in the foot later to make myself appear fine now.

@j7 I'll never understand the rationale of: "Here, get good at your job so I can lay you off and replace you with someone who is worse." Or, apparently, in some cases, multiple people who are worse.

The problem is, that is not immediately quantifiable compared to current quarter's salary count and the impact 4-5 quarters down the line cumulatively.

I get the problem. They are blind to long-term operational metrics and can only look at current rate.

@j7
Clients schlients. The stock price is in the mid 90s when it used to languish in the 50s & 60s. Doesn't that make you feel just awesome? ;)

@eb yea it’s gotten worse from what I hear. They outsourced my job but I’m in touch via WhatsApp with the one I trained, he’s a good guy, they are sc--wing then in India too, denying raises, holidays, PTO, etc. plus my old team mates, they are up to 7 people now to replace my output lol wayyyyy over my compensation so the outsource plans ultimately will cost Met more. Plus someone I know has gone back and spoke to one of the client facing vps and they are pi---d still they let me go cause I helped their team do all their requests plus did all the work lol delays are now 6+ months and then I goes into production wrong and the client team had to deal with angry customers. But leadership only wants to cut numbers, they dint care about employees or the customers. If they were smart they would’ve waited until I trained the off shore people to let me go lol but the leaders aren’t that bright, just greedy and some are just downright evil.

@e3 Was there around the same time as you, and was on the bottom and can confirm the meetings were counterproductive.

The problem also, is that they are cutting out the bottom and shipping everything offshore, so they are having all the bloat at the top rest on a foundation of cardboard and balsa wood. It is going to fall over eventually.

God forbid you avoid running the min() function on the Salary column for once.

It’s been a year since I was there but what I saw and am told from people still there it’s getting top heavy. Lots of managers and middle managers and fewer people doing the work. The managers love meetings as they dint really do much but “planning” and give updates. Meanwhile those actually doing the work are buried and in endless barrages of meetings.

It's basically become this weird cult of C-suite personality. The average employee, other than the circus seals barking for fish, feels totally disconnected from this crew.

@a5 @OP don't worry about it OP, you will eventually be replaced with 2-4 "durka durkas" who will just sit quietly on the call, say yes, or just nod if the camera is on like good little indentured servants.
