Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why do we still have branches?

Does anybody outside of boomers even go there anymore?

I would say the majority are immigrants or low income who visit branch locations. I do not frequent branches often but may have a large check to deposit or need smaller bills to give as tips or spend at the farmers’ market. There is still a need for branches. Small businesses especially need branches as they often deal more in cash.

People go into branches for a variety of services that you can't do online.
This is a d-mb post.

Why are people still building grocery stores, or Walmarts, or Costos, or anything else? It can all be bought online yet the stores are full. Go figure.

Anyone with 6 figures in their WF checking for more than a very short time is throwing money away. So yeah, if I was a teller it probably would be a jaw dropper, as in "how can anyone be this stupid?"

Where I live, every major bank is building new branches. Maybe it's localized to key markets, but branches seem to be part of the growth strategy again.

I work in the branches as a retail banker and make 200k

Not everything is about going to a teller and a boomer depositing a check written in cursive that a younger teller can't even read. Sometimes it's documents that need to be signed and notarized in person, or a wire transfer that cannot be done online. Not everything at this point is doable online. If anything, the bank doesn't accommodate seniors as much as they should, especially when they are they are the largest pool of scam victims. So put your generational prejudices aside because somewhere in your head you blame them for something in your life you don't want to take accountability for. The bank tries to convince you that it closes branches because everything is being done online when the truth is about downsizing to save money just like they are doing with the layoffs.

How else to witness the awe on the teller's face when they see a 6 digit balance on the checking account?

Why are brands like Chase expanding organically through new branches? WF’s branch network is one of the few strengths of the brand.
