Company of bootlickers

Worked with Technical Architect Lead who did not even know difference between relational database and S3 buckets.

If you are a bootlicker, then have a good growth in this company.

I’ve been snitched on every time I tried to get a union in here. I’m still doing it.

I don't think it gets as bad as what the @OP said but managing up is a skill anyone who wants to get ahead needs to learn. Learning to manage up helps you build a stronger working relationship with your boss, gain more control over your daily work, and advance your career. Hard work doesn't always pay off if your manager or their managers don't know you are doing it. So even though the bootlicker su-ks, at least they know how to get ahead.

This is true with any big corporation. It is not unique to FIS. How died that old day go? “It’s not what you know, it’s who you blow’”? Or something like that. I’m sure Steph would know.

@eh - Don't get disappointed, few divisions within India are like that and since you're interested in doing so — and who knows, you might already be doing it. If not, try discussing it with your manager with ba--s(if he has), he might be open to all these services.

I might apply for a job there if it ever becomes a company of ball li---rs. Please keep me posted.

That post title sounds like a PBS Masterpiece Theater period piece starring Billy Nighy and Sarah Lancaster.

@OP forgot to add here, when this Architect was riffed in March 2026, told me that he is riffed because his salary is very high.
He gave me hint that he is making somewhere around 225K per year and cognizant can not afford him to pay that much.

The talent pool is pretty pathetic. I've never worked with less skilled engineers in my life

Those who listen, don’t say no, promise unrealistic things or even openly lie are getting promoted. We have plenty of “manager - software engineering” who can’t write a line of code. Furthermore, the majority are based in one location due to nepotism from senior leadership who prefer easier-to-manage people.

Everyone seems to be a lead now, so we have folk in India with the same title as a bone ride lead in the US who historically would have lead the technical direction of the team. Fast forward a few more RIFs, all these expensive US Leads will have been let go in favour of their much cheaper counterparts in India

Incompetent, inept and useless bootlickers are what managers admire. They don't like employees that can speak up for themselves and contribute to the growth of the company.
