Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RA Looming

People are being cherry-picked from existing teams to form new teams. The decisions are made from the top levels and managers typically don't know what's going to happen. Get ready for another round since IBM bolsters their earnings on cost reduction.

When would the PIP RAs be expected for? Will it be after 2H during the performance reviews?

@hk I liked your post not because I like with the messages content, but because I know for a fact there’s truth to it.

@eq
Different people have different constraints. Some in their 50's might need at least a decade of work. Lives are shattered when the unexpected happens.
Let is not go down the path, "it is a blessing to be let go after decades of dedication".

I was let go from IBM November 2025 and honestly i felt relived. Twice a year I saw some of my colleagues getting RAed and thought when will I be next. I worked harder thinking my performance will speak for itself. Boy was I dreaming.
However when it happened I was good with it, no harm done. I took my severance and took a much needed 4 month vacation around the world. There is a life after IBM and its real and magnificent

@af I mean aren’t just pushing them all into Anderon? IBM’s solution is “you’re not laid off, you’re just someone else’s employee now,” that’s a pretty creative definition of not being laid off. Gets them off IBM books. Feels like a layoff with a fresh coat of paint and extra steps.

That’s how Albany is. Moving people to quantum but who knows how long that will be successful and if someone was already a low performer and gets picked as one again they are gone . Also who will train them?! They are picking people who aren’t qualified just because they can’t hire externally
