I’m curious what percentage actually took Cara up on the offer to uproot their lives and move to Minneapolis to serve their bullseye overlords

@12t I wonder what exactly was in that relocation package? Even if it's 1K (which is typical of most companies I've relocated for in the past), it's not worth uprooting yourself (or family), putting a house up for sale - to then risk getting dropped a few months or years later when the company isn't doing too well. The days of retiring from a company decades in are over. Loyalty buys you nothing.
@11y it says in cara’s email from april that those who decide to move to were offered a relocation assistance
@11y what level were you in? i’m surprised they didn’t offer a relocation package when you were asked to relocate that’s kind of de-incentivizing.
@fx
As former remote TM in the design sector who declined to relocate.
Severance Package:
- 6 weeks of pay + 1 additional week of pay for each completed year of service as of termination date.
- If enrolled, an amount representing six (6) months of the employer contribution for active medical coverage.
Relocate Package:
- relocate within 90 days of your decision date (what package lol)
@h3 good on those 90%
I’ve heard that over 90% of people declined the offer to relocate. Not surprising.
@f1 can you share what the relocation package and severance looked like? i’m remote and have concerns this may happen to me in the future
@f1 As someone who has relocated for many companies in my younger years, I would say that today in our current economic climate, it is not worth uprooting oneself (whether single or married w/kids) because companies are very unstable, unethical and will spare no time getting rid of people; no matter how loyal you are. No sense in leaving family and your friendship circle to move to a strange city, and then risk getting dumped in a few years to then have to invest in moving back to your home city. Not worth the ROI.
No clue as I’m not part of that org but I did hear through the grapevine that people were getting in role promotions because many people were not coming back. So they had a lot of open roles to fill in that area. For example if you were considered a high performing L4 in the PIM pyramid, they would offer you a promotion
@OP I was part of this group (PIM) and never lived in Minneapolis to start, hired remote years ago. Because I have a family and live near my parents I couldn’t bring myself to uproot us, so I had no choice but to leave. I heard the number of people who relocated was really small but I don’t know the exact number.
