It is so subjective, isn't it? Use the information that you have and do what is best for you and your loved ones. Clinging to the notion of getting severance has caught up more than a few. Then, surprise, your severance is lost due to a relocation of your work to another division or company such as Cognizant. The only move to make is the one that gives you a semblance of peace in the current environment. Semblance, not actual peace.

@f7 what did you decide to do? Please disclose!
@f7 As long as they give you the guarantee of severance pay in writing, I think you should accept the extension. You will have four extra months to look for a new job. Knowing FIS, I doubt they will do that.
@ka It's FIS. Do you really believe they would do the right thing? Probably reading this chain right now so they can purposedly make sure they add it 2026
If you accept the offer to stay until the end of the year, make sure that the severance is paid in 2027 so that it will initially be taxed at a lower tax rate. You want to avoid adding the severance to your 2026 income.
@f7 wow, nothing like waiting until the very last minute. Obviously, having options is better, regardless of what you choose. If only they could do it with more notice. Had you made any plans that you might have to change?
I work for FIS and my last day was supposed to be 8/31/26. I got an email yesterday stating they have extended my job role until 12/31/26 and it’s entirely voluntary if I wanted to accept the offer or not. That it would not affect my severance pay in any way. This company is realizing that the big layoff they did in March has been a total failure on their part.
@aa Oh, Crabby Grandpa, don't you ever get tired of yelling at the kids to get off your lawn?
@OP the guru speaks.
