Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

I don't mind extra work

But assigning me things I've never been trained on and expecting magic? That's the kind of stress I can't handle. I'm out of here as soon as I find something, even if it involves less pay.

How much longer can MH hold on?

When will Apollo see that NK not qualified and is drowning with responsibilities?

I heard that Barbwire and MJ will be gone one day in October.

Wishing everyone a Happy Long Labor Day weekend!

It has gotten so messy that we are just pretending at this point. Just do what you can, when you can if you can. This is the new Ethos! Or just don't do anything.

It is so Sad,, but also a slow, constant train wreck and I can't look away.

@we You are so right. no one knows what’s going on. The goal was to cut costs, full stop. so we. look good got investors and the ipo.

Now we are a hollowed out organization , with a lot of clueless new managers.

Dude, what no one is commenting on is, nobody knows what’s going on so if you do absolutely nothing, they don’t know if you’ve done the work or not. I found that out gosh in May? So I’m just gonna chill here until either. They tell me what to do or do they lay me off either way there’s a lot of Internet out there to explore.

@ss yes, highly salaried and the ones with 5+ years of tenure.

@qa Exactly. There are so many great employees exiting. Look at the Circle of Excelkence attendees over the past 2 to 3 years …. at least 20 of them are gone. Top 5% talent are heading out on the terms.

Look at the Pods. and all the vacancies

It’s so bad, they are taking 5 to 8 weeks to even post a vacant position. They don’t want people too see the truth.

MH has been silenced.

Employees with 20 or more years were thrown into new roles with little to No training with the hopes they will quit and not have to given severances. it is cut cut cut. by any means at this point. They want all of the high salaried employees gone.

Well?!?! . more talent is exiting Cengage. Real Talent, Highly Successful individuals, who did the hard day to day work generating new business for the organization.

Management can not stop the bleeding at this point. They want everyone to believe it is part of the plan.

Thanks for sharing , You are right. I looked into Short Term Disability. we are allowed to take 2 weeks off, for any medical reason we choose to report. No documentation Required for the first 2 weeks. 1st week they use your sick leave or vacation time. and during the 2nd week you are paid STD @ 100% of pay. If you need additional weeks beyond the initial 2 weeks, this is when you will be required to submit medical documentation from your doctor, but it is paid at 100% on STD.

Time to get some rest and take 2 weeks off.

@fj There are a lot of trolls on this site, just like all of social media. Some people don't have a life and for whatever reason get off on acting like bullies.

I don’t understand the vitriol on this site. If somebody feels overwhelmed by their job at because they feel they were thrown into a situation without proper support , they can vent about it on this site. There are no rules that stipulate that posts must only be about layoffs. I wish people would just calm down and let people say what they want to say on without jumping all over them. If someone wants to say an IPO is happening and lay out all the reasons why, let them. I don’t see why this is such a big deal. If you disagree an IPO is coming then do so like a grown up without resulting to personal attacks. And if it aggravates you so much, then get off the site. No one is making you logon and look at it.
I wish those who are still with the company, but are demoralized and aggravated that one day they will not feel that way - whether that means staying and making peace with it or leaving.
way not be such a baby and a bully about it.

let's try again! Take FMLA.... there are many ways you can take it. Use chatgpt if you are slow

Let them figure it out while you are out

@dn You did your old JOB for 3 months. SU---R! That again is your fault. Why would you do anything extra for these l-wlifes. Stop! Re-evaluate ! and Get back on track.

Loyalty has no place at this company, you are holding onto the past. It's no longer the old Thompson you loved. MH has been here for 13 years sc--wing you over and you are obviously a slow learner, who lives in fantasy land and nostalgia .

Stop Whining on Here and make a move. You can take up to 12 weeks of FMLA,

Or you can say No .. I love Cengage and I'm going to figure out how to work harder for them, harder than I ever have in my Life. they want me, they love me, I have to do better. I will show them.

Oh btw, leadership can't integrate a course, fix a webassign error, and very few of them can effectively use salesforce. That's the Joke! No of them have ever sold our products , they are Spreadsheet losers that only look good on paper.

@dj yeah no. There was zero training. No plan. And also did my old job for 3 months because no one on be textbook side knows how to do it. The irony you speak.

Its interesting how you thought you were the lucky one in May because you didn't get laid off in the Reorg. Now you are having a meltdown during back to school. Rush! You had the whole summer to learn your job. You must not be Tech Savvy? You have been working in Education for 17 to 30 years and Now you are figuring out you need computer skills?

The blame is yours and yours only!

You must be an employee with too many years of service., and you didn't qualify for the severance package. They gave 2 weeks for every year of service, plus your vacation balance. but that had to equal less than 35 weeks or you were not offered severance. All severance packages will end by December 2026.

They are trying to force you to quit! Don't Quit. Think of all the ways you can take 2 to 4 weeks off, RIGHT NOW! Asking for Vacation is Not the right answer. If you are not sure ask ChatGpt. Its so obvious..... That's how you fight back. DO IT TODAY!

@b1 no I don’t know how to do “my job” - for a LOT of us- it’s completely new and we didnt work for textbook sales side of the company (nor did we ever want to) until the hostile takeover in May. This side of the business is a joke and the most unprofessional job and people.

@OP Forget magic, they probably just hope you figure out that you are no longer needed and they are pushing you out the door. Better than wasting good severance money after a bad employee. You know the saying; Don't let the door hit you in the $$$ on the way out.

@b0 "No one know what they are doing", speaking for yourself, but this probably explains why you are where you are; don't even know how to do you own job. "Train me, Train me", beh.

@ar we are leaving. You clearly don’t understand that half the company are in jobs that they never provided training for and many never worked for Cengage. No one know what they are doing nor what they are responsible for. Go kiss MH butt more.

Try getting your entire company and all you know eliminated and being thrown into Cengage textbooks and immediately getting copied on customer emails to help them with zero training. HR never even emailed a job description.

You created a thread about not minding extra work. This didn't need a new thread. This is a topic that is useless. That is something that management would like. one pay check but extra work and extra hours , same pay. your post is ,,,, DUM DUM!
