Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Trying to Prepare…

Does anyone know how to get a copy of our most recent severance policy? I have an idea of what it was back in 2024 but dont know if it has changed recently.

@jq . Yes, but….

1) I took a long term contract role. I personally wanted time to find the right place and role - contract role is a great avenue to work, be covered by Bp benefits for a year and give yourself breathing room to really find the right place. Every person and discipline is different but this worked for me….

2) I did that for over a year - loved it. Then I moved to a full time gig - need insurance and time to get more stable roles.

I took a little less than I was making at Bp but within the G level bands. But for me as I’m older - I add general wellbeing and happiness into the equation more now.

There are many industries outside of O&G that pay Bp money. Data Center / Tech / Pharma will get you close if not same…

@jb were you able to find a job with comparable compensation within a year of being let go?

Got canned in 2025. One month for every year of service. After 12 months it goes to two weeks for every year and capping out at 18months.

Bonus is prorated and also paid out as well. Any unused vacation and vacation that you accrue too….You get medical for a year - pay the same rate. After 12 months it goes thru the roof. If you’re above 50 and have like 10-15 yr of service you will get the retiree HSA.

Bp offered $5k in reimbursement to continued education classes taken within one year. The outplacement vendor is mixed. They help with resume and trainings but they are not recruiters.

LinkedIn is a nightmare - don’t trust it for jobs. Mostly ghost jobs. Network network network. The job market isn’t as bleak as your may read.

Here’s a good one - so many interview rejections at Bp. 2 for 2 offers interviewing externally. The challenge is just getting to an interview. But you are way more qualified and capable than the gaslighting…

15 yrs of service. G level USA.

Go to Onebp and search for “Severance”. It’ll be the first or second thing that pops up.

@f8 basically a month of pay per year of employment. I think it maxes out around 12 years or something.
