Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Layoffs 8/10-8/12

People being laid off will be informed between 8/10 and 8/12 next week. Leadership had to inform HR this past week who would be the one doing the notifying of the individual that is being laid off, those people went through a layoff training and now we just wait for the meetings to pop up on our calendar.

@q5 Fair point. To my credit, I did say, or so they say. Anywho, I don't buy into my leadership choosing me, or even if HR proposed me, and I'm not trying to fight for me. In my department, both managers took the VSP, and I was the lead. We were in the middle of transitioning their deliverables to me. To me, it doesn't make sense that the leadership would actively choose me, as you say, given the responsibility they were prepping me to absorb. Therefore, I stand by my statement that there is no rhyme or reason, unless it is all about the dollars. Nevertheless, I have transferable skills and can open up a consulting firm. So, all in all, it's the push I need to get the someday idea going.

@py Beliving that your leadership was shocked is very Naive. They all knew. There is no way someone gets RIF without Leadership choosing him/her OR was proposed by HR and leadership accepted/approved it

@ne Yeah. There was a PL on the call when I got the news who didn't say a word. I can count on one hand how many times I've communicated with that person during my employment. Interesting to say the least.

@pw There appears to be no rhyme or reason. For the last 4 years, I have significantly exceeded. I have an AI certificate; however, I was RFI, and my leadership was shocked, or so they said. I announced it to the team I lead and discovered two others were RFI, leaving only folks who started two years ago. I know it su-ks right now. But know that you are a skilled employee with tons of industry info in your head.

@pq same here along with her VP. Quality. Seem to be the only one on my team or that I know of. I’m taking it personally. Think I will find an attorney because of my age.

My director informed me this morning at 9 a.m. that my position was eliminated. My last day is 9/4, and I will be paid through 9/11 in the TX Provider Engagement department. I worked at HP for 14 years. At the time of this post, no severance information was received.
I hope this helps someone.

I received a check in email with a meeting that was within 30 mins. I been with the company for 8 years and gave it my all. When I asked how was I selected I didn’t get a clear answer. I regret not taking the vsp but they clearly said the vsp was just a new program they was trying and don’t sign it unless it was your plan to leave the company. Then why not allow us to apply for other positions instead of laying us off . I am so disappointed, discouraged and most of all hurt.

From the meeting I my whole team just had we were told that there was a big layoff in claims and anyone that was going to be notified has already been notified. I don't know if that's for the whole company, or just under our upper management.

@nf I wasn’t offered VSP as with majority of my coworkers lol

It seems as though the ones that took the VSP made out better because if they want you to leave earlier they have to pay you the VsP money. If you didn’t take the VSP and get laid off the package is smaller. Everybody should have just taken the VSP.

@mx Read the Room- the post may have nothing to do with you. This company has more than at least 10 states of employees. A favorite isn’t someone that does their job, but consistently gets away with it. Getting triggered over an opinion of someone’s or viewpoint experience is too personal on a very opinionated layoff forum.

@d4 PL’s at the supervisor, manager, and director level know nothing. Directors MAY have some influence on the list. “Favorite” employees are likely to be the ones who do their job consistently, are always willing to take on additional tasks, and do it all without complaining. Maybe do some self reflection if you don’t feel you’re a favorite. I do have an employee who does a good job with members, but is generally a pain in the butt for me, so I would not be upset if they went. Its all about who is remaining-is this the best team given how many cuts need to be made?

I was a Supervisor during the 2021 layoffs. All decisions were made at the Director level and above. I was told Wednesday afternoon which of my employees were affected and asked to create the meeting invites for Thursday morning. We kept the Director and HR off of the invites and I IM'd the zoom links to them. Thursday morning, I sat muted on the meetings while the Director read their script, HR read theirs, and then HR answered questions. I've since transitioned back to an Individual role, but I'm willing to bet that the HR playbook hasn't changed too much.

@js

I keep hearing different things. It makes me think it's all very different depending on what area of the company you work. I was told supervisors don't have a say but senior managers do once the list is made.

@dj You're 100% right. All these employees thinking people leaders are the ones to decide who stays and who goes based on metrics. They do not give PL's that much authority.

@c0 It is because they too are probably taking the resignation so they have to burn up all of their accrued time (even though they have endless amounts) before they jump ship and change jobs.

@hx good luck. It’s a very sad time an done I never saw coming the way ghis has been rolled out is deplorable and sadly I did not accept the vsp but wish I had now considering what this has done to me mentally. I am actively trying to get out of this toxic environment

@ht You're probably correct. The way this has been handled by Centene is deplorable. It has been confirmed by several PLs that they attended training last week on how to handle the lay-off discussions with employees. Hopefully your team isn't affected & that's why you haven't heard anything. Wishing you well. I don't know what the future holds for me (I took VSP) but I am not sorry to be leaving. I am embarrassed to say that I work for Centene after learning about the fraud they committed & seeing what little concern they have for their employees. Counting down the days until 9/4/26.

@am I called the VSP line and asked that question. They told me that my exit date won't change. I'm not sure how much confidence i have in that answer.....

It's very easy for me to imagine receiving an email saying that the business needs of the company have shifted, as has my exit date.

I think we would still receive the same package.....
