Most of the people I know who are staying are close to retirement. They are unhappy but see no point in starting over this late. One coworker is months away and jokes about hoping for a layoff with severance. I keep telling him that luck never seems to work that way.

You never know I knew two people months away from retirement in 2011, that got laid off with severance. What I learned by working at aig for 28 yrs - laid off as well - never say never!
I was one from the 7/1/24 VERP. Believe me it was an incredible feeling to log off my last day. I hope more have the opportunity.
I lucked out with the VERP and the timing was perfect. It does happen! Best thing ever!
