Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

WARN Notice Question

Now that the VSP program has finalized we know the company will be moving forward with involuntary layoffs. Does Centene still have to submit a WARN notice? I did some research and the VSP does not fall under a WARN notice so if Centene decides to lay off more people they have to submit one. My question is, is the WARN notice only for a significant cut in workforce or even if they have a small number of layoffs to do.
I didn’t take the VSP and I’m ok with that but I’m honestly annoyed with not knowing if I’m going to have a job in 60 days or not. The games are getting old.

@OP WARN notice is not needed if employer pays you in full for 60 days. So if Centene notifies in August, if they pay to October, a warn notice isn’t required. Centene has the money to pay you off without signaling shareholders with a warn notice. They know what they are doing. With the amount of VSP approvals, the warn notice isn’t required.

@OP exactly this is how centene gets around the Warn notice. If you are in UM or nursing it’s having more cuts is what I’ve heard. Other than that we are all being told no one knows until next week by 8/12 we will know.

@OP Under the federal WARN Act, a company with 100+ employees must issue a 60-day advance notice only if involuntary layoffs at a single site within a 30-day (or rolling 90-day) window hit one of these thresholds:

  1. 500 or more full-time employees are laid off at a single location/site.
  2. 50 to 499 full-time employees are laid off, AND that group makes up at least 33% of the active full-time workforce at that site.
  3. A full facility/operating unit closure that impacts 50 or more employees.

For remote or work-from-home employees, WARN rules typically assign you to the corporate headquarters or regional home base facility you report to.
