Request to get RIF accepted

I raised a HR case to get RIF'ed.
In one hour my manager sent me meeting invite. We discussed the terms and on amicable terms my position was made redundant. I was given full severance package as per terms in FIS Handbook.
My Location is Alpharetta, GA.
Just open a case with HR, they will consider it with open mind. In fact, I encourage everyone not happy with current events.

Wish some of us had a choice. 30+ years severance gone. No say in anything and predict September 1 will be a storm I don't know if I can bear this much longer. I need the paycheck so staying until the fall. Love my team

Mutual separation is a legit and legal option, just be careful how you word it and handle it. I've come out of companies with larger payouts this way and avoided being fired. You can still be eligible for unemployment this way as well.

How do you apply or request to be RIF’ed?

In case you are reaching the age of 65 and have significant years of service, then does not matter to ask for RIF. FIS cannot fire you for asking this request. And this will be a nice little bonus.

Heard from reliable source that more than 100 employees requested for RIF today.

@a7 yes some people are either fed up with what is going on or are fortunate enough that they are ready to retire and that package would be a really nice send off. If I had been laid off I would have gotten almost 40 weeks of severance which would have brought me to 65.

@av I got the same message and I had been trying for almost 2 years. I finally gave up and retired. I offered to train people and stick around for x time after and they wouldn't lay me off.

I appreciate these comments. I'm 64 (will be 65 in less than two weeks). I'm just coming off short term disability. I've been on short term disability since February due to health reasons. I return to work tomorrow (8/7). I'm praying FIS will offer me some kind of package after 14 years of faithful service and hard work.

@OP it does depend on the individual. Older employees volunteering could see being RID’d as a nice send off into retirement and would give TPO an easy non contested RIF.
Under performers would also likely be welcome volunteers, for the same reason.
The majority probably wont get accepted.

Hmm I did that back in May (opened an HR case requesting to be RIF’d!) and was given some nonsense about how “reductions in force are based solely on business needs and organizational requirements,” and “ we do not have a policy that allows colleagues to self select or volunteer for inclusion in a future RIF, even through TPO.” Maybe I should try again?!

@OP so many are unhappy with current events that you may have started a stampede. There have been so many posts from long term employees waiting to be RIFed that I suspect that TPO (HR) will be surprised. Whether they remain open minded will be seen.
