Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Not sure I understand

I’ve seen the article and all the rumours, but there’s one thing I can’t reconcile. We have some actual history to compare this against:
• Last summer, Oracle filed WARN notices in Washington ahead of layoffs — including filings covering 161 employees in August and another 101 reported in September 2025.
• For the March 31/April 2026 cuts, Oracle again triggered WARN in at least some locations. Washington reported a WARN filing covering 491 employees. (Bizjournals)

Federal WARN generally requires 60 days’ advance notice

Business Insider is reporting another round of Oracle cuts planned for August, with some teams potentially facing double-digit percentage reductions.

I’m not seeing the WARN filings so thoroughly confused. I know that doesn’t mean layoffs aren’t happening.

How are the cuts structured so that we aren’t seeing WARN notices? Are they spread across enough U.S. locations that individual sites stay below WARN thresholds? Are a significant percentage outside the U.S.? Is timing being staggered? Or is the reported scale simply being overstated?

And I don’t think “it’s remote employees” automatically answers it.

That’s the piece I’m trying to understand. The lack of WARN activity seems off given what happened in spring & last year

There are no WARN notices for Ontario, Canada.

For anyone in Canada who is impacted: don’t feel pressured to immediately sign whatever separation package you’re given. Have an employment lawyer review it and assess the circumstances before agreeing to anything. Severance entitlements can be very different in Canada, and the initial offer isn’t necessarily the final outcome (threaten to sue the sn-t out of them).

There also appears to be precedent from last year’s summer Canadian RIF involving the treatment of unvested RSUs before severance began, so that’s another issue worth specifically raising with counsel. Canadians were given garden leave until Sep 22 or 23 so that all RSUs given via focal could vest.

The uncertainty around these RIFs is stressful, even for people with strong performance histories. And organizational changes can leave people wondering whether their role will survive regardless of performance. At a certain point, some people may even prefer the certainty of a reasonable exit package over months of waiting to see what happens (like me!)

Also bear in mind that layoffs can happen anywhere in the world, not just the US.

@OP WARN applies to physical office locations. By classifying most employees as remote WARN is only triggered when 50 people from a single physical Oracle location are laid off.

@OP you don't understand how the layoffs work. We don't see the WARN notices until the impacted employees are notified. Beyond that, please do some research. I'm frankly tired of explaining this to people who can't do 5 minutes of research.

There is no pattern. Don't make it hard for yourself by trying to figure it out. The company would have covered its bases legally, that's for sure.
