Dress code

What is the deal with dress codes at the office? Remember 2019? You'd get that email saying "reminder: business casual, no tennis shoes" like it's a bouncer at a nightclub for accountants. Somebody's checking your shoes before you send your first teams message.

Now? Now it's like the dress code just....left. Didn't even give two weeks' notice. Guys are coming in wearing hoodies, shorts, Birkenstocks. Birkenstocks! You know, the shoe that says "I'm not choosing between comfort and sandals, I'm doing BOTH, and I dare you to say something in the 10am meeting."

And nobody says anything! Where's the email now? Where's HR? I think HR saw the Birkenstocks and just gave up. They're on another floor somewhere, in sweatpants, eating a sandwich, going "you know what, let 'em wear the sandals."

OP, are you one of the ones who wears some kind of fragrance? Or are you professional enough to know that scent is a no no at work? Share this advice with others. Have compassion on many people who needlessly suffer for 8 hours having to sit next to someone’s scent (cologne, strongly scented aftershave, scented lotion, perfume, spritzer). You might smell nice but your scent gives migraines and flares up allergies. Also, most scent is toxic and you’re poisoning your body slowly and it’s triggering headaches in you, too.

Hey, someone got a problem with cologne ghosts that linger for 45 minutes ? Well, just take the bathwater and throw the baby out

What I wish is for people to stop wearing fragrance to work. I think some have secret diffusors in their purses because the moment they enter the building you know and what is nuts the scent doesn’t die down until they leave. What is wrong with these people, why do they think we need to be forced to smell their scent? I like them as people but deeply resent them for giving me headaches. I don’t know where they went to school, but I was taught to leave fragrance at home. That’s my ted talk for the day.

Why do you need to dress like you're going to prom for an office job.

You sit in a chair.
You look at a screen.
You send an email.

Ball gowns and suits are way long gone. Its performative. You arent that important.

It's the signal that people have no pride and they've given up on life

What exactly is the point of a dress code in an office where your team isn’t located, and don’t talk to higher ups? I wear jeans and a hoodie all the time. I’m gonna take it a step further and wear basketball shorts and a tank top.
