Do those put on PIPs receive severance benefits similar to a layoff situation?

If terminated you may get 60 days pay. Nothing else. This is assumimg you are not eligible for retirement.
I’m surprised that there would be no severance for a PIP at Target, I have seen other companies that give standard severance with health insurance benefits from 3 to 6 months
Not really. A PIP is basically a documented warning that you have to "improve" or else be terminated. You don't qualify for a severance if you get terminated. You get 30 to 60 days depending on your leader and then you get booted if you fail to meet the terms of your PIP. But you most likely will qualify for unemployment if you try your best to meet the requirements of the PIP, yet fail to meet those terms and get terminated in the end. Hope that helps.
With a severance you generally get a week for every year you worked at Target. With a PIP, you may get 2 weeks.
