If anyone has insights into what is happening with HealthNet, Health Payer Specialist would like to write about it. We don't need to use anyone's name. I'm at Susan.Ladika@FT.com

@OP Any idea as to why Centene gave up on California and Oregon commercial plans? Is Centene not making any profit from California and Oregon ?

@a2 don't assume, nobody mentioned marketplace above, they said commercial group, small business and large business, which was core to HealthNet business model when it was an independent company and an odd variation when health and it is compared to other business units of Centene.

Does that also include employer plans? I’m being trained on plans outside CA and it’s annoying.

@af if you think 400k plus lives is a nothing burger then you need to take a look at some of the Medicaid plans in other states. This is a significant chunk of business.

What most don't realize is, Group business helps support Medi-Cal. Once Group is gone, you better be ready for Medi-Cal cuts a year later for CA.

@b2 This doesn't impact Marketplace plans. Only Small and Large Group.

Do you think they’ll layoff all remote employee from CA? I work within the Marketplace department.

@aq I agree about Centene being a joke.

Centene is so bad that HR sent an email saying crying at your desk counts as an unauthorized water break.

Centene is so bad that they said will continue to have these meetings every single day until I work out why no work is being done!

Centene is so bad that whatever they their Town hall meetings lack in content, they make up for in length!

Centene is so bad that when asked “What’s the best way of making a small fortune in the stock market?” Their reply is “Starting off with a large fortune!”

Centene is so bad that when asked, “How many people work in your company?” The response is “About half!”

Centene is so bad that when their associates told Senior Leadership that they were being condescending, their response was, “Perhaps you are confused as to the meaning of the word ‘condescending,’ which simply means we talk down to people.”

Details matter. It’s not “marketplace” that they are exiting.

I've worked with a few of the CA teams recently. Very nice people, this comes as a big shock to them. And this looks to be a roadmap of what's to come for other health plans. One day you come into work and find out that in 6 months, your jobs and your team will be mostly gone. I feel badly for them, it's tough to find a job with so many companies having their own layoffs with AI, automation and outsourcing. I wish everyone well. Sad times.

This has been coming for a while and frankly, our commercial business was such a small part of the portfolio. This is a nothingburger.

@a2 All CA HN associates received an email today from Eric Schmacker, Health Net Plan President & CEO - It's all commercial plans, small and large business. According to the email, it does not affect marketplace - Centene is basically focusing on government run programs. It will also affect HN Oregon commercial business. The email included a link to an FAQ that outlined that there would be more layoffs as the business winds down.

Is there a source for this? I assume you mean Marketplace plans, which wouldn’t be surprising considering the absolute bloodbath every insurer is currently taking in that sector thanks to the current administration.
